Katana in Arcades First
Sega Enterprises intends to release an arcade version of its new hardware before it lands in homes.
When Sega's next system is released early next year, you may have already seen what it can do in your local arcade. Sega Enterprises is planning to offer a low-cost, high-performance arcade board this summer, utilizing the processor that the Katana will have (made by Hitachi).
The cost of the board compared with Sega's current Model 3 configuration will be cut in half by the use of the Hitachi chip, rumored to offer a 20-30 percent jump in graphics performance and the ability to move over one million polygons per second.
It will also make arcade-to-home translations for the new system much easier.
