Just Flight has recently revealed that it is working alongside members of the original IL-2 Sturmovik: Forgotten Battles development team to create an expansion pack for the game. Battle over Europe, which is currently scheduled for release in February 2004, will chart the progress of battles between the USAAF and Luftwaffe in 1944 and 1945 through no fewer than six campaigns for each faction.

"IL-2 has established itself as the best-loved combat flight sim to date, and we've been working hard since our release of Operation Barbarossa to bring another expansion worthy of the sim," said Mungo Amyatt-Leir, managing director of Just Flight. "We've worked hard with some of the original IL-2 developers to create something really special--a product that blends our reputation for unerring authenticity with some good old-fashioned fun."

Battle over Europe will feature an updated campaign engine that generates missions using 61 different objective types and thousands of potential targets for each of the game's 12 campaigns. According to today's press release, there are potentially more than 3 million unique missions available. The game will also boast a new online dynamic campaign feature that allows players to fly campaigns with others where the results of each mission directly influences the situation in the next.

We'll bring you more information on Battle over Europe as soon as it becomes available.
