Just Cause developer's Mad Max game delayed to 2015

Avalanche Studios pushes car-combat game to a release next year; check out a new trailer.

by

Just Cause developer Avalanche Studios today announced that its upcoming car-combat game Mad Max has been delayed from 2014 to 2015.

The new 2015 date was announced as part of a new UK trailer for the game. The North American version of the same trailer did not show the new date, but a Warner Bros. representative told GameSpot, "Yes, 2015 is the official release window for Mad Max."

No explanation for the Mad Max delay was provided. Mad Max was announced during E3 2013 last summer and was originally intended to launch this year across Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC.

The new Mad Max trailer focuses on Max's car, the Magnum Opus. Legendary custom-bike shop West Coast Customs is building a real-world version of the car and we'll get to see it this Sunday on West Coast Customs at 7 p.m. PDT.

Why put that thing in front of the windshield? Does it do anything other than obscure the view?

holy shit why didn't they just release the consoles this november…. would have been so much better with more launch titles and more time to work on the consoles

Mad Max is delayed until 2015. Fair enough as long as this makes for a better game. This game would need all the help to make it better. Or at least getting this to work properly on Xbox one and PS4. This is a movie tie in game. To go with the rebooted Movie version of Mad Max. Movie tie in games rarely turn out well so delaying this game to sort thing out may be for the best.

Well, the new release date makes it closer to Fury Road's release date, makes me wonder what kind of effect on sales that will have. As for the trailer, why does the air scoop have to be so friggen tall?

Was every car in the Mad Max universe modeled directly after the Ford Pinto, or are they all being held together by sticks of dynamite, leaky nitroglycerin paste, and anfo seat cushions?

Should have given the car build to Gas Monkey Garage instead of a bunch of has beens from a decade ago who do specialize in bikes over cars. Let them have the WoW bikes, but leave the cars to the pros.

They should have just delayed the whole of next gen to be honest and waited another year - would have been fine then!

I was just saying this had gone quiet again in the other story about Just Cause 3 possibly being a thing. Guess I was right.

Just watched Road Warrior again 2 days ago, great film. Really wish this didn't get delayed but if that means a game that doesn't suck, I'm fine with it.

Just make it good! That is all that matters.

They most likely pushed it back to avoid the tremendous competition around christmas time and to polish the gameplay. They would have been up against dragon age inquisition, dying light, destiny, witcher 3, the crew, shadow of mordor, baman arkham knight, evole, AC Unity, and Lords of the fallen, and many more.

Although I was really waiting to get the game this year, there is no problem with a delay if it is to make the game more fine tuned. Let's hope they get this right because Mad Max is one of my favorite series.

Damn I'm really looking forward to this, I hope the delay is to add more polish and make sure the game is great and not because they're having trouble and it's not playing well.

The universe of Mad Max has such potential, I hope they do this right. Rage had an good opportunity but the driving and the combat was separate from one another and felt like you were playing two separate games. I'm glad they are pushing it back... more time for development and polishing. I really hope they turn this game out to be great gaming experience. Here's to hoping.

@mcmflyguy just because you are ignorant of one of the biggest movies ever, doesn't mean it isn't relevant.

@Gamer_4_Fun  To me, I don't care much for neither story or characters. Graphics has to be decent. The important thing for me is to have innovative gameplay mechanics with lasting appeal.

olddadgamer

@Gamer_4_Fun That does worry one.

Especially when we're talking about a dude who's making Mad Max.  I mean, there were... you know.... good, interesting characters in the Mad Max movies.  How can you say that characters aren't important when you're making a game in which the title is a famous, iconic character?

Concerning.

@gamerno66666 You can probably add Dying Light to that list too, we haven't heard anything about that for a while.

I have seen road warrior numerous times. I was poorly trying to show how few people know who mad max is now a days

mcmflyguy
mcmflyguy

I didn't have to google it, what I poorly got across is probably how few gamers actually know who mad max is.

olddadgamer
olddadgamer

@cboye18 @Gamer_4_FunYeah, some people are like that, and that's fine, but if you're going to make a game that doesn't focus on story or characters, why Mad Max?

XNEXUS666X
XNEXUS666X

@olddadgamer @Gamer_4_FunWell hopefully it's a good game first, then they can add stories. For me personally I like games that don't heavily rely on stories (in the case of sandbox games). I prefer freedom, exploration and the ability to navigate at my own pace, I just get more life from those games rather than the ones that guide you with a lovely story. Just Cause 2 had a pretty flimsy at best, but it didn't stop the game from being a hell of a lot of fun.

I think it's still ok to take a concept from other media and turn it into a good game without being too bogged down by stories. I'm a huge Mad Max fan and l have confidence in this game.Wait a minute! WTF!! There was hardly a story, hardly any dialogue from Max and half the movie was a car/truck chase (Mad Max 2). The game is going to be good alright!

LesserAngel

@_Silent_Jay_ @wookiegr Are you sure it was because of the movie's delay? The movie's delay was announced 6 months ago, so it seems kind of odd to announce the game's delay now.

@Gamer_4_Fun - Exactly.

I especially enjoyed the performances of 'Quiet Man', 'Defiant Victim' and 'Tent Lover' in Mad Max 2. ;P
