What we heard: Though not a raging success in North America, Just Cause has been fairing quite well in retail in the UK, where it stayed on the region's top 10 all-formats list for four weeks after its September release. This success was apparently enough of a sign to begin work on a sequel, according to Internet reports.

Gaming site Worthplaying.com cites an article in Swedish gaming magazine Kong, in which Just Cause developer Avalanche Studios (also from Sweden) apparently cops to a sequel's development. Worthplaying says Avalanche CEO Christofer Sundberg reveals that his studio is already working on a sequel and that the game will abandon the Far Cry-esque island paradise for a "VERY large city environment" (caps in original).

The game will also reportedly go multiformat again but this time will focus on the next generation--specifically the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Though taking translations from foreign publications often ends up in a game of "telephone," this bit of scuttlebutt is likely legitimate. Avalanche has a grand total of one game under its belt (Just Cause), and given the game's success and potential, it seems like a smart business move to pump out another one of Rico Rodriguez's adventures.

The official story: Eidos rep--"We don't have any comment on this as of yet."

Bogus or not bogus?: Officially? Bogus. Unofficially? Not Bogus.

I played the PS2 version and it was horrible. Then I played the 360 version and loved it. So I am happy they will be making a sequel. I loved smugglers run and this seems to be as close as I can get on the 360.

I can't wait for it to come out on the x360.

The first one had its problems. But it has the core to being a really good game. I think this is a good move, the sequel could turn out really well.

I liked the first one, it wasn't brilliant, but I'd play a second one.

Like they said Avalanche has a grand total of one game under it's belt and so far it's been a good start for them and a sequel would also be good, who knows maybe later in the years they make even better games so I think a sequel is a good idea...

In my opinion, the first one was a masterpiece. For people like me - who just enjoy a game for what it sets out to do, and not copy other games - it was a very detailed and huge game, that offered hours of game play just exploring. A sequal will work extremely well, as long as they keep the same vehicle variety, and beauty of the landscape. In the end, that was what the first game was best for.

The first game had the makings of a decent sandbox game, but it didn't have enough resources or time at it's disposal, hopefully this time they will give it more thought and fix a few errors with the game and make it a worthy rival to games like crackdown and maybe even GTA 4

I admit it could have been better. But still its better than the GTA series, cause the GTA series are so STIFF. B-Cause you can't be close to a car that is goin' 2 X-plode or you're dead. Back to the Subject. The stunts was amazing, but there were somethin' that always disturbed me about the game. The Vehicle Damage! You can drive into a tree at top speed and NOT get a dent on the Vehicle you're drivin'. Its still intact and good as new. AND more Side Missions too. B-Cause I'll always end up doin' the same Mission every fifth time I start a new Side Mission. Even, of course, MORE depth and LONGER Main Missions. Doin' undercover or somethin'. And not go to you CIA contacts every time you start a new Mission and they brief you on the situation and what to do. Its SO boring.

just cause, the original was a great idea and i think thta maybe if avalanch bring out a sequel the should pick up on the faults of the first and it could turn out to be a very shiny game if they get it right.

To be honest I think just cause 2 would be a good idea. Fix the bugs... Make bigger cities and less island... Make ground combat more exciting... Focus on next gen consoles (and pc :D) Winning formula there!

i loved just cause 1, i mean the story was short and weak but the enviroment was just amazing, the soundtrack was compelling and base jumping was just awesome, the AI glitches ruined alot of the experience for me though, sure ill get the sequel

I liked the game better then San Andreas personally, I had a few minor problems rico should be able to run faster,do drive bys, swim alot faster and the car controls need some tightening up, a few other things like just bumping into another car causing the police to be after you was annoying, and proper car physics are a must in a sequel if I am driving a bus and hit a tiny car I do not want to slow right down to a stop, it should be smashed flying out of the way, its a solid game pretty inventive,I will play it over the GTA games that are currently out anyday, something about the James Bond style unrealistic action makes this game insanely fun, its not perfect but hey its Avalanche's frst game if they can get it together for its sequels and iron out some of the problems get a better storyline going and expand more on the stunts and fighting and driving and just improve overall I think GTA may have a strong contender

I think it's great that there will be a Just Cause 2. My only regret is not being able to know what improvements they've made because I only have a PC. Just Cause is cool and looks really nice. The gameplay is so-so but I'm sure this will be one of the improvements of the game. Maybe it'll give me a reason to buy a PS3. Anyways, I think the company did a pretty good job for a first game and, if they listen to the people that played the game, the next project could be a real contender.

"paradyme777 The game environmentally looked gorgeous but the characters and everything else was just blah. " Well said... kind of like taking a fabulous island vacation and immidiatly being stuck in bed with the flu. Surrounded by beauty, and filled with bile :)

I read the original Swedish article and all that is confirmed is that they are working on Just Cause 2. It will be focused on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. The main character will remain the same. They will add more "stunt-tricks" and it will not take place in San Esperito. It doesn't mention anything about taking place in a city.

The only reason Eidos is talking about a sequel, now, is that sales are poor. There will be no sequel to that mediocre game.

I don`t know, but the first was an ok game, considering it was their first project. If they`ll get some more money and spend it wisely on implementing good physical model engine - it would be a 8/10 game. Will wait for it for sure. BTW - I`m tired of GTA.

Wow, a sequel to a game so boring that it actually had the power to halt the passage of time. "brok Why no love for the Wii? " Because with less graphical and processing power than the Xbox, it's going to primarily be "in house" games for the Wii. That's not a bad thing if they're good, but few publishers will be making huge HD bonanzas for the PC/360/PS3 and then make a wildly downscaled version for the Wii that.. oh yeah, would have an utterly different control scheme. Of course, the Gamecube is the underdog of the current gen, and I still own one. I may have 8 or 9 games for it instead of 80 or 90... but it's cheap and I like it.

ZEELIX

well as for graphics i suppose they were bad but considering its the developers first game looks pretty good, then again the 1st console games suck, i mean look at the first ps2 games compared to knew ones. id say the more games the better.

played the demo too - hated it !!! for some reason, i bought the game anyway (ok, it was incorrectly priced at 40gbp, and was going to return it to another shop for 50gbp, so shoot me) anyway i thought i'd play it (as the seal was broken) and hety! i'm loving it - great fun. GTA SA was crap because right in the middle of messing about, got a call to go back to base. got fed up with that in a hurry so, to get back to the subject - a sequel will be good. they may have made mistakes with part1 but really, give them a break!!

Sequels. Yay. Let's make a sequel where we get to kill MORE things and do more AMAZING stunts. I miss innovation. Oh well. People are just bloodthirsty and I guess that's here to stay.

sounds good, just include money in this game, and make shops and barbers to customise your character. and more varied side missions.

PS3 as well this time A... Interesting, but to be fair the first one was not to great so the sequel may burn and dye.

While it wasn't great, it was at the very least decent. I'm not so sure about the abandoning of the jungle + city environment, as it really kind of gave it it's own flavor and look. I fear going for just a larger city will make it feel like just another GTA. I suppose though however I shouldn't cast judgment on the game before its anywhere near release; If they take their time and drop the engine that was used for the 360, and please do not use Unreal Engine 3, while I do like URE3 , I wouldn't mind seeing something new used. Add in a little more variety to the overall game with a bit more to actually do and of course please take your time with the game and I think it could turn out much better than 1 did. to Ryozo: Damn you bought Scarface, now that imo is one bad game and a big blemish to a great movie. Lets hope there isn't another Scarface game.
