Journey Dev Teases Multiplatform, Multiplayer Game With First Images

What's next for Journey, Flower, and Flow developer Thatgamecompany? We don't know for sure yet, but the studio started to tease the project today on Twitter.

"Thatnextgame," as it's being called, is a multiplayer, multiplatform game, according to the bio of Thatgamecompany's Twitter account. The studio even created a Twitter account for the game.

It's a "game about giving," the studio said, though it's not immediately clear what that means. One piece of art shows a candle lighting another. A second image depicts four characters who are holding hands. Both images use a blue-and-white color makeup.

2012's Journey for PlayStation 3 is Thatgamecompany's latest game. A version of the game for PS4 came out in July 2015.

After the launch of Journey in 2012, Thatgamecompany secured $5.5 million in venture capital to make a multiplatform game that it will self-publish.

In April 2014, Thatgamecompany cofounder Jenova Chen said his dream is to "make everyone love video games."

"People still read novels, watched movies, listened to music. The fact most of my friends are abandoning games makes me feel sad," he said at the time. "How can I help video games not just be for kids, and respected from people of all ages and genders?"

Chen added that video games too often only cater to genres that are most appealing to a young male audience instead of tapping into categories that can appeal to wider audiences. In order for video games, as a medium, to become "healthy" and "respected," developers need to expand into new genres, Chen argued.

Thatgamecompany's new game will be an "emotionally engaging experience centered around human connections for players of all ages and backgrounds," according to the developer. However, don't expect it to offer the "same emotional experience as Journey."
