JoJo's Bizarre Adventure HD arriving in August

Capcom bringing $20 high-definition version of arcade fighting game to PSN and XBLA on August 21 and August 22, respectively.

by

Capcom announced a high-definition remake of arcade fighting game JoJo's Bizarre Adventure for consoles today during a panel at Comic-Con 2012. The update includes online play, and will launch on the PlayStation Network August 21 and Xbox Live Arcade August 22 for $20, or 1,600 Microsoft points, according to Joystiq.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure will see new life on the Xbox 360 and PS3.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure originally saw release in arcades, and was later ported to the original PlayStation and Dreamcast.

Today's news follows word from earlier this this month, when Namco Bandai announced that it had tapped Asura's Wrath developer CyberConnect2 to build JoJo's Adventure All-Star Battle.

The most recent JoJo's Bizarre Adventure title was 2006's PlayStation 2 game JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Phantom Blood, which was based on the first installment in the manga series.

Way too expensive for an old game. Also, even it is a classic, it isn't that great either.

I would like RE Oubtreak series to be in HD and with online play.

Seriously people these games are playable on the Dreamcast and Playstation 1... & the original XBOX & PC if you know how to use emus. IIRC the Japanese Dreamcast version  still supports online play, the DC community made this possible through patches a phone wire and a boot disc. All DC games are network enabled for free, so if you want to get your Jojo fix in without yielding to such shady business practices just remember you have at least a couple of options!

words alone can not describe my excitement right now.

I think this news merits an orgasm or two. If this port has the totally wardrobe adventure mode from the PlayStation version that would be super good.

Wow, another Capcom HD remake......... You know that old saying, "Be careful what you wish for"?

No wonder console makers are getting rid of backwards compatibility; The box is cheaper to make and the profit margin for a DL game is better than a retail sale.

20 bucks is too much capcom. I have bought retail games cheaper than that. I gonna have to wait for price drop. If there is none. I won't buy. Hopefully PSN plus will do something.

$20? Skullgirls is $15... and it's a completely original fighting game. Nice try, Capcom.

These downloadable games keeping getting more and more expensive. Capcom doesn't know what the hell they are doing anymore. At least they can't blame used sales when this fails from being expensive.

It's good. But not a day one download maybe when a price drop/sale happens.

What about an HD version of Streetfighter Alpha 3 the best one of the Alpha Series & yes Powerstone 1 & 2 would have made perfect sense

This game is so horribly broken.

And why didn't MVC2 get an HD remake?

Nice try Capcom.  You're not getting a dime until you figure out what Competitive Balance is and make a Not-Broken fighting game.

Is this just a strait HD port of JoJo from the plain arcade version or the port of PlayStation 1 version that had all the extra modes and fun mini-games?

I am looking forward to being able to purchase this game.  I just hope Capcom will also have plans to release Power Stone 1 & 2 and Project Justice, preferably both in HD mode.

 @zzamaro I' ve been screaming that since there were rumors of a new Resident Evil Finally someone agreed (sort of)

 @TheArcadeWhy go through all that when you can pay $20 to have the update version on a modern console. Also Im sure im not the only one that perfers my copies in English

 @FallenOneX

 You also miss out on owning a physical copy including the instruction manual with the plot and detailed artwork. Remember devs get to charge you again for games you may already own, but cannot work because your machine isn't BC. A decision created by MS and Sony in order to make more money.

Well, technically speaking a few older PS3 models supported full BC while XB 360 offers limited BC via software emulation for all XB 360 models. But you get my point, for games like this that aren't BC devs are asking us to buy them again so they can pay their electric bill and put food on their table, lol.

 @BillyColeman Hells yea. Wtf is capcom doing with power stone? I need it in HD or a sequel.

Tokufan22

 @servb0ts  I am for starters. and not to start an argument or anything (after all everyone has a right to their own opinion) but if you read the manga series it's based off of then you could see how this is NOT a waste. I do, however, agree with you about the 3 games you mentioned and how they need love too. I have always hoped that Skullomania would make a comeback.

Nexozable
Nexozable

 @DrKill09 It's not really a HD remake.

It's basically just a re-release with filters to make the sprites look clean rather than pixelated. MvC2 on the XBLA and PSN has the same features as well.

double_O7
double_O7

@Kiaininja We don't know yet. For $20 I would hope it includes all the PS1 content.

double_O7
double_O7

@Nexozable Hmm, interesting. Its possible the forum mod wasn't privy to that information, and they really didn't know. On the other hand this could explain why the game is $20 which is higher than most of their other digital re-releases. They probably had to relicense the rights to the game and may be charging more to cover that cost.

maniaxe613
maniaxe613

 @nathangray Illegally?  Without HD mode?  Without online play?  Without any modes other than arcade mode?  Why don't you think about that for a moment.

SolidTy

 @TheArcade To be clear though, all PS3's have PSOne BC...so playing JoJo's is no problem...if you can find a copy of the game of course.

FallenOneX
FallenOneX

 @TheArcade

I see your point about owning a physical copy, but that's a personal issue people have to deal with. Personally, I love physical copies, even CE's of certain games, but I love gaming even more. If I can get the same game online for $10 cheaper than retail, I'm downloading.

And even though I should have elaborated more in my first post (I'm more angry at the fact that I thought this was going to be a new JoJo game, not a remake), they aren't remaking his game to pay bills, they're doing it because it's easy money. Now, I know I'm talking out of my rear waste expulsion unit here, but I haven't read about a company complaining about their PSN or XBL sales of remakes, so i'm pretty sure a conversation like this goes on at HQ....

"Look, our recent studies show that 2 million people would buy this game right now. We've decided our budget for this game by estimating that 500,000 people really will buy this game @ $20, and this is the size of team that can get it done profitably in 6 months."

DrKill09
DrKill09

 @Nexozable   Well, they shouldn't call it an "hd remake" when it isn't.  That's graphics filtering, it does nothing to the res.  That's false advertising.

I can use 4XBR filters with this game, and it looks far better than any filter they will use.

nathangray
nathangray

 @maniaxe613 *buzzer* This is something you should do a bit of research on before you assume it's illegal. Why do you think sites that offer MAME/Nintendo/Snes ROMS are easily available why places that offer ROMS for current/recent gen systems have to hide in secrecy? News flash bub, they don't care. They're not making money off of it anymore, the only money being exchanged is through second-hand sales, which they don't get a cut of. MAME filters can make up for (and have been making up for) HD Modes, and whether or not Online Play is relevant is entirely up to the consumer. I personally don't give a crap about playing online, especially since within a few months you'll be sitting in 2 hour queues because everyone else will have already moved on.

GinsuVictim
GinsuVictim

 @maniaxe613 Actually, MAME filters can give a way better HD presentation than what Capcom provides.

Shinobi120

 @DrKill09  @Nexozable

I agree. And besides, MAME offers BETTER graphics filters than what Capcom would be putting out.

 @nathangray as if there were a lot of arcades everywhere and companies are losing money.....

nathangray
nathangray

 @maniaxe613 Actually, I should clarify, because I just noticed that first sentence could be misleading. I meant to say rather that it's not about it being illegal, they just don't give a damn.
