Japan game charts: September 11-17

For months, Nintendo DS software has owned the Japanese software market. The handheld's domination culminated in late August when every single one of the top 10 selling games was a DS title. However, it appears that the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable aren't ready to make any concession calls.

Titles for the Sony platforms captured four of the top 10 spots, including the two highest positions. All four games are new, having been released just this past week. They are Minna no Tennis from the makers of Hot Shots Golf, another Ruroni Kenshin game based on the popular anime and manga series, Capcom's over-the-top action game God Hand, and Ridge Racer 2 for the PSP.

In comparison, the DS saw just one new game crack the top 10. Nounenrei: Nou Stress Kei Atama Scan, literally "Brain Age: Brain Stress Measurement Head Scan," claims to be a brain-training game and healing device. Sold with the motto "A stressed brain can't be trained properly!" this title purports to ascertain the level of stress on the player's brain and alleviate that strain, allowing the player to move on to the brain-training portion of the game with a clear head.

Media Create expects that Minna no Tennis will be "a long-running seller, like the platinum-selling Hot Shots Golf 4 before it."
