It's Friday, which means it's time to consult with Media Create on the state of software sales in Japan. The week of July 24 to 30 saw the release of lots of high-quality titles as the summer-software battle heats up.

The big story is the continued success of the Nintendo DS, which owned six of the top 10 slots for the week. New Super Mario Bros. and a pair of brain-training games continued to rack up sales, with three DS debuts also cracking the top 10. These include the number one title, Tamagotchi no Puchi Puchi Omisecchi Gohi-Kini, Mario Hoops 3 on 3 at number four, and Konchuu Ouja Mushi King at number 10, all making strong debut showings.

Games for older audiences were also prevalent, such as Capcom's Sengoku Basara 2, spooky adventure title Kamaitachi no Yoru x3, and horse-track simulator Derby Stallion P for the PSP, which placed second, fifth, and eighth respectively.

Looking at the top 100, the Xbox 360 at last got some good news from the Japanese market, with three titles making the top 50--Bullet Witch placing 29th, Shutokou Battle X 37th, and Senko no Ronde Rev. X 42nd.
