According to a report from Hollywood news site Deadline, Skyfall director Sam Mendes is in "early talks" to direct a live-action movie based on Roald Dahl's James and the Giant Peach. The 1961 book was already made into a stop-motion movie in 1996 directed by Henry Selick and produced by Tim Burton.

There is no word on who might star in the unannounced film or when it could be released. Deadline's report states that talks are "in the very early stages," so it's entirely possible all plans will change.

The story follows an orphan who lives with his grumpy aunts after a rhinoceros eats his parents. He becomes friends who bugs who live in a massive, fuzzy peach. They then set sail, inside the peach, for New York City, a city he wanted to visit before his parents were gobbled up.

Mendes made 2012's Skyfall and the 2015 follow-up Spectre. The director, who won an Oscar for American Beauty, has said he's finished with the James Bond franchise.

If a live-action James and the Giant Peach is indeed in the works, it wouldn't be the first time Disney has spun an animated movie into a live-action one. The House of Mouse did the same for Maleficent and The Jungle Book recently, while there are live-action versions of Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid in production right now.
