"It's Too Early" to Say What's Next for Killzone, Dev Says

According to Guerrilla Games managing director Hermen Hulst, it's "too early" to talk about the next Killzone game. That's not because he's become uninterested in the series, but rather, Guerrilla's focus at this time is on their ambitious-sounding 2016 PlayStation 4 new IP, Horizon: Zero Dawn.

"My enthusiasm for Horizon by no means should suggest that I'm now uninterested in Killzone," Hulst told Edge, as reported by GamesRadar. "We love that franchise, we really do. But it's too early for me to comment on future projects. It's going to be a very big challenge for us to get [Horizon] out the door. And as for what's going to happen after that? We'll talk about that later."

Sony and Guerrilla Games have released a new Killzone title almost every other year since the franchise first launched with the original Killzone in 2004. That game was followed up by Killzone Liberation in 2006, with Killzone 2 coming in 2009. Killzone 3 was released in 2011, while 2013 saw the release of Killzone: Mercenary and Killzone: Shadow Fall.

Also in the interview, Hulst says Horizon is the "toughest" project Guerrilla has ever worked on.

"After we shipped Killzone: Shadow Fall, and we'd been through the hoopla of doing a launch title, I thought that was going to be the toughest thing we'd ever do," he said. "It pales in comparison to this. This is so much more challenging on the team in every single way. But I find that doing something that is this refreshing, and that is supported so strongly by the development team, is probably even more important to the success of a title than how far you are out of your comfort zone. I feel a sense of love for this project among the team, and maybe that sounds corny, but it's really empowering."
