It's Plants vs Zombies vs Cheetos in New DLC for Garden Warfare

Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare gets dangerously Cheesy sponsored content

Electronic Arts has teamed up with Cheetos and Target to bring special Cheetos-branded content to Popcap's "weird" shooter, Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare, according to a post to the game's official Facebook page.

The promotion offers customers a $10 gift card if they buy specially marked Cheetos snacks along with a copy of Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare. Each Cheetos product also comes with a code that can be redeemed online on your platform of choice. A single redemption will unlock Dr. Chester and Chester Chomper characters, as well as a "Craaazy Sticker Pack" that includes a mix of consumables, accessories, and items. Redeeming the code will also enter you in a chance to win a custom designed Xbox One, PlayStation 4, or a custom controller in daily sweepstakes that will last until September 26. Entering more codes will unlock additional sticker packs and more chances to win the sweepstakes.

This isn't the first time Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare featured this type of branded content. In late June, Electronic Arts announced Berry Spooter and Citrus Cactus, custom character variants with new appearances and abilities that were sponsored by Aquafina Flavorsplash.

Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare originally launched in February for Xbox 360 and Xbox One, on PC in June, and finally PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 last week, with the latter version running at 1080p/60fps. For more on Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare, check out GameSpot's review.

I... what?

This is kind of why I stopped playing Team Fortress 2.  Every other item became a tie-in promotional tool for some other game or whatnot on Steam, and every play session started to feel like a glorified advertisement.

Shhh! I'm not suppose to know this. The uploader has not made the video available in my country.

i'd buy this game if it was on steam. heck, i'd buy it if it was anywhere i could buy that's NOT on origin.

cool!  Dunno if I'd go to the trouble of buying Frio-Lay chips just to get a code for my game, but if I do it'll be a nice bonus!

I can't see this in Canada for some reason.  Nice.  Still seems pretty stupid without even seeing it.

Can these new character variants be purchased with the in-game currency, or is this just a U.S/Target/Cheetos exclusive?

All Plants Vs Zombies DLC are 100% free. So no there is no DLC code, and no character codes

Guess that means the figures they're releasing in September will probably have codes as well, ala Mass Effect figures.

Hmm, this actually isn't a bad promotion (based on what is written in the article).  I could go for more promotions like this.

So you can just buy the bag? Or bag and the game?

Only 5 days late, started on the 19th of Aug and ends Sep 26th.

Both chars are pretty useless. Dr. Chester is too short of range (talking face hugging only) and the Chester Chomper is just like a normal chomper, but digests faster.

Only 2 abilitys that are new. 1 being the heal station and 2 being the warp. All the rest are re-skins. These abilities can be used on other variants of the same class.

Took me 4 Targets to find a bag since day 1. Target doesn't know when they get restocks and they are located in the electronic section on an end cap... Which is displaying the game.

Price per bag is $4.49.

@guerans That's great, but I was actually looking for a way to make $3000 a day working from home.

It's sad you deny yourself great games for such a foolish reason.

Probably a US promotion.

@eorde This does indeed have a code to get the exclusive cheetos characters.

Yeah, or you could unlock them like the rest of the characters through sticker packs.

Don't have to buy the game then. Article sounded like you had to buy game and bag.

I'm assuming you mean the dlc code. That or you forgot the /s

Either way it would have made more sense to word it buy a bag of Cheetos and get dlc code inside. If you buy the game with the bag at target you also get gift card and so on.

Brand marketing loot rarely goes anywhere once the promotion is over.

DLC is free for PvZ, always has always will

@eorde What you say is half true, in this case, you have to buy a cheetos bag to get the code to unlock these two characters, but if you get the code through other means like giveaways, then yes, it is free.
