Is the next Deus Ex adding a multiplayer mode?

A job listing on Eidos Montreal’s website is looking for an online programmer with experience in multiplayer games.

A job posted to developer Eidos Montreal’s website suggests that the next game in the Deus Ex series might be getting a multiplayer mode.

The developer is looking for an Online Programmer to work on Deus Ex: Universe, a project for the new consoles and PC announced in October 2013 that spans multiple games. The Online Programmer’s duties will include implementing online game features and building a suite of tools for running a live game.

Eidos says that experience in working on multiplayer games would be an asset, as is good knowledge of the Xbox Live, PSN, and Steam APIs.

Last week, Square Enix filed a trademark for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, but it’s unclear whether it’s related to the game currently in development for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, or another mobile title such as last year's Deus Ex: The Fall.

Go to hell Square Enix! MP for this type of game is a waste of time, I really don't care for play this game in MP!

Don't ruin Deus Ex with multiplayer!!! Look at what happened to KOTOR....and TES.....DON'T DO IT!

I admit that "Universe" think they've been talking about does concern me.  Whatever they do, all that matters is that they don't go all crazy thinking they can turn this into some mass appeal huge seller and ruin what makes the game good for the fans.  We've seen that story play out many times, chase a new market and fail to win it, at the same time pissing off the fans and effectively killing the franchise.

MP or not, it's the SP that makes or brakes this game so no compromises aight?

Deus Ex was such an amazing game...the last thing it needs is multiplayer.

While I don´t care much about MP on Deus Ex the folks "hating" on it should remember that the original game also had MP,and some people still play it.  And just like in System Shock 2,it was pretty much a really tacked on MP experience,so if this is gonna happen at least they´re gonna put some more thought into it.

omg please no..   not every game needs an online mode to be successful and DE: Human Revolution more than proved this!  why ruin it by turning it into COD with augs???   if they do this i am done with the franchise.

After what they did to the series with Human Excrement (I think that was the title), I don't even care if they tack on a pointless MP mode.

If they have multiplay contents something like dark souls, I will welcome it.

I think they're better off saving money to not put multiplayer in. Can't speak for others, but if I buy this title, I will never touch multiplayer. Not even once. If I want multiplayer, I'll go install LoL, or pick up BF4. You know, a game dedicated for multiplayer. Not this tacked on useless crap.

the only thing missing from human revolution was a love interest with role play.

It's all good, as long as it stands by itself and not integrated into the singleplayer in some way so that once it shuts down, as all multiplayer modes ultimately will, I don't end up with a 90% single player experience when I feel nostalgic a decade later. This is no exaggeration as I am playing both Anachronox and Omikron: The Nomad Soul. And I hope the next DX ages just as well.

Or, it can always be a fully integrated experience like The Divisions seems to be. I can live with that.

Please focus on the single player experience, as that's why your die-hard fans love you at the first place!!

Deus Ex Online!  Now you can share the JCDenton experience with a million other people.  Imagine waiting in a cue to stalk your way into the enemy base.  Use stealth to conceal yourself behind other players. Hack computers for ExBucks to spend on custom outfits and gadgets from the online store. Coming in 2015 for $59.99 and only $15.00 per month!

Unless it's coop it looks like we are seeing the Deus Ex sequel curse.

Everyone on the no-multiplayer-please train, get off.

The original Deus Ex had multiplayer. Stop your whining.

not saying that I am excited about this but, if they keep it to something like ME3's multiplayer(without making the story some sidelined crap) then I think I might enjoy it.

Auriken

I wouldn't mind a cooperative mode. Whatsup with the stigma placed on multiplayer games these days? It seems like it doesn't matter what kind of multiplayer it is. Just allow more than one person to play together and people flip their shit.

If they added a cooperative mode to the game then I wouldn't mind that. For all its faults, Dead Space 3 did cooperative right. There are just some things you can't do solo that you can do with a friend in that game, and the story is expanded upon and a lot of the dialogue is slightly different with another player.

If the multiplayer they're talking about is some kind of pvp crap, then yeah I don't want that because I won't play it anyway. But I don't see any issues with cooperative play.

@Arach666 sure lets just murder another great franchise while we're at it..  why?  cause once upon a time the "original" Deus Ex "which almost NOBODY even remembers" had an online mode..   good gosh i get so sick of hearing excuse after excuse on why its commendable to multi-butcher franchise after franchise..  leaving this topic before i get pissed,  DE:HR is like my favorite game of all time so just reading this is giving me a headache.

@cboy2332  Pretty much the only mp I will find acceptable these days

@XIntoTheBlue  I hate it when they try to please everyone... you put work into a new component, existing components end up suffering.

I was really worried when I heard they're adding MP to Mass Effect 3 and I was right to be: they ran out of time and had to wrap SP story with the most lore-breaking, WTF ending I've ever seen...

@cratecruncher  You forgot about Micro nano transaction, can't augment JC unless you purchase the nano kit for 4.99$.  And you can get a little bit extra like fluffy bunny ears if you buy the deluxe nano kit, as a drop with 0.001% drop rate for only 20$!!!

Actually, I take it back. As long as there is a good single player campaign, cyber fights with other players across a future cityscape might be all kinds of awesome.

@DanielL5583 How about no? We'll speak up if we want to and in this case we are. Demanding that people shut up just because they have a differing opinion to your own just isn't on.

jackcoull

@DanielL5583 From what I can see here, no one actually played Deus Ex.

Deus Ex MP was pretty fun, people gave up on competitive ages ago and it was just screwing around and role playing.

AwkwardTurtle42
AwkwardTurtle42

@Auriken Some people didn't like that Dead Space 3 locked people out of certain things if they didn't play co-op. Single-player is what made that series after all.

WereCatf
WereCatf

@Auriken Well, it's kind of obvious that it'd be some PvP-shit. Companies avoid coop-mode these days like a plague for some reason and if they add it they always specifically mention coop. Just mentioning the generic "multiplayer" term is more-or-less synonymous with your regular, run-of-the-mill PvP.

@shangtsung7 the original Deus Ex is the title of the series that NOBODY remembers???You lad have either crawled out from a cave or have NO idea about gaming what's so ever. Deus Ex was THE game of the series and every single title after it pales in comparison...Deus Ex: Human Revolution was an excellent addition to the series but NO WHERE near to the original's immersion , customizability , story or even extras and sidequests. You mate need to go down the games' history lane and have a thorough briefing cause your statements are messed up

Nanomage

@shangtsung7 @Arach666  Yeah,no one remembers one of the all time greats,I bet you´re one of those guys that loves HR and never played the far superiror original,or maybe just played it after HR.

Arach666
Arach666

@shangtsung7 @Arach666  Are you saying that no one remembers the best game in the series and one of the all time greatest games that pretty much gets mentioned almost everytime in any all time greatest list, unlike it´s sequels? That statement sure is one of the most humurous things I´ve heard in a while.

Or perhaps you´re just saying nobody remembers it had an online mode? Because that I can agree with.

@SphinxDemon  im mainly referring to megan reed alot of the game was about him finding here and he clearly had feelings for her but nothing ever happened. you might as well of killed her off.

@Unfallen_Satan @justinka777It was patched out several months later by the Extended Cut DLC. Hopefully BioWare have seen the reaction to it and won't do it again. I really don't want to see an "Inquisition readiness" meter in their next game.

Dissentioncc

Except they didn't mention anything. The job opening says multiplayer, but that's pretty broad. Could be either or both.
