Is Sony about to unveil a PS Vita Slim release date in the US and Europe?

"Following the biggest launch in PlayStation history, join us for an introduction to the slimmest," says Sony.

Sony looks set to unveil some new hardware following its launch of the PlayStation 4, but is it going to be a release of the PlayStation Vita Slim in Europe and America?

The company has sent an invitation to the media, which reads: "Following the biggest launch in PlayStation history, join us for an introduction to the slimmest."

Sony launched a slimmer model of the PlayStation Vita in Japan last year, which claims to be 20 percent thinner and 15 percent lighter. The refreshed model did remove the original Vita's beautiful 5-inch OLED screen, however, and instead replaced it with an LCD display.

Could we also, perhaps, see the PlayStation Vita TV get a western release date?

There's also the possibility that Sony could be unveiling a new and improved PlayStation 3 slim. The PS3 has seen two sized-down models in its lifetime, although many criticised the last revision for its slide-tray disc loading and a cheaper feel. Could a third redesign be the charm for PS3?

If it's going to be the slimmest, however, it would need to top the feat of mechanical wizardry that saw the creation of the PlayStation 2 Slim, which for our money is still the most impressive display of console reduction surgery in history.

What do you think Sony's announcement could be?

I'd love VITA TV to make its way out of Japan, but if Sony are talking about a 'slim' release then I'm putting my money on the VITA Slim as well. While I don't like the latest model of PS3 I can't see a redesign coming so soon after the last.

I've been holding off buying a VITA in the hopes that the new design would make it's way to Europe. The loss of the OLED sucks but I think the gains outweigh the losses.

I've been holding off getting a vita because I'm waiting for a slim model. If this event is the confirmation of the vita slim, then I'll definitely buy one at the end of the year with a ps4

Can't wait to see an article on Kotaku about how it's awful we think slimmer consoles are better.

Either the slim version of the Vita or more on the VR Headset.

I doubt its a PS4, but there's a small chance. If you think about it, PS4's specs aren't that new or even expensive. So maybe the specs got cheaper (maybe it did in this small period of time) or smaller so they got the chance to get it slimmer and get it cheaper to compete. I'm probably talking rubbish because I'm really tired, but it's possible since the competition is pretty hot this generation.

I know its kind of necessary to get the price down, but its such a shame they couldn't keep the OLED screen.

Michael D = fanboy for Ms, if you have a ps4 your logic doesn't make sense. You knew the lineup coming into the next gen if you didn't like it then why in the hell did you buy it? Makes no sense. You sir are a Microsoft fanboy but nice try.

who cares about handheld gaming ''consoles''

I'd rather keep my original Vita for the single reason that I love the OLED screen on the console.  The slim-version's LED just won't look as nice, especially on some of the more beautiful games.

I'd take cheaper memory cards. Easily the worst thing about the system.

That should make the Vita sell for a week.

No, Sony shouldn't even try with the Vita anymore...they're not gonna ever be able to compete with Nintendo. Those "fantastic" specs the Vita has mean nothing without good games to play on the system and there's no point in shelling out over two hundred bucks for a vita if all of its games are available elsewhere on consoles I already own (I used to have a Vita but then I sold it and got all the money I spent on it back)

they're referring to the "slim" game selection for the ps4. and yes i got a ps4 so don't call me a fanboy for m$

@xolivierx More people do than home consoles and PCs. If you knew how to count past 10 you would know this.
