JVC Digital Studios has announced its flight-combat game Iron Eagle Max for the Sony PlayStation 2. The game will feature both land- and air-based combat as players take on 32 unique missions. In addition to the game's primary mission-based mode, it also includes a free roam mode, which lets players fly a variety of airplanes and take part in skirmishes at will. Replicas of real-world planes such as the Tornado, F14, FA18, F4E, F15A, and F16A, among others, are included in the game. A variety of preflight options are also available to the player, as weapons payloads and target assignments can be tweaked prior to the mission.

Iron Eagle Max is currently nearing the final stages of development and will be released for the PlayStation 2 in April 2002.
