IonHawk Hands-On Impressions

We give Mobile Scope's new space shooter a quick once-over at E3.

Comments

For our European readers, Mobile Scope may not be an unfamiliar name. Its Moorhen franchise of mobile games has been in circulation in the European markets since 2001. However, Mobile Scope has yet to break on to the American scene, but Mobile Scope is coming, and if IonHawk is any indication, the company may be around for quite some time.

IonHawk is your basic 1942-style shoot-'em-up game with nothing unexpected--except for the fact that it's immediately enjoyable. Reminiscent of Dwango's Star Diversion (aka Star Exceed), IonHawk combines an impressive collection of graphics with ease-of-play features that let you play the game with only your thumb. However, it goes even further than some of its more notable predecessors in the mobile space by adding the ability for you to collect power-ups to upgrade your ship and replenish your health. This is not a "one shot, one kill" game.

With nine levels of play over three different worlds (not including the hidden bonus level), this game should leave you with many hours of enjoyment. If IonHawk lives up to its potential, Mobile Scope will have hit the ground running with its first US mobile game.
