3D Realms has released a statement regarding former Ion Storm director of technology Corrine Yu signing on with the company.

3D Realms said it is forming a new technology development group that will focus solely on 3D engine development, which it plans to use both for its own titles and to license to third-party developers.

Yu, who worked on enhancing the Quake II engine for Anachronox and with the graphics programmers of Daikatana, will be heading up this new department.

Prey and the tentatively titled Duke Nukem 5 will be the first 3D Realms-developed titles to use this new 3D engine technology.

"Corrine is one of the industry's top 3D engine coders, with an exceptionally strong math and engineering background," said Duke Nukem Forever project leader George Broussard. "She's exactly the person we want to be leading our new technology development group.

"We think engine development requires its own dedicated team to do correctly," said Broussard, "and that's the commitment we're making. We're very excited to have Corrine on board to help us accomplish that goal."
