Io announces Kane & Lynch 2 DLC

Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days developer Io Interactive unveils three downloadable content packs, on sale two weeks after launch.

by

Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days was released today in North America, and its European launch is set to follow on August 20. Shortly thereafter, developer Io Interactive will begin its first sweep of downloadable content for the title, announcing today that three DLC packs will be available August 31. The packs--titled Multiplayer Mask Pack, Alliance Weapon Pack, and Doggie Bag Pack--will extend the game's multiplayer modes by introducing more "tools of the trade" and heist locations.

Alliances become even more fragile after August 31.

Dog Days is the third-person shooter follow-up to 2007's Kane & Lynch: Dead Men. In the new game, the titular psychopath and former mercenary venture into the seedy Shanghai underworld for a 48-hour stretch. The multiplayer expands on the original game's treachery-enabling Fragile Alliance mode with Undercover Cop and Cops vs. Robbers modes, as well as an offline Arcade variation of Fragile Alliance, as outlined in GameSpot's recent preview.

Details on the DLC packs are scarce so far, but the multiplayer offering that comes on the disc features six maps, each featuring scenarios inspired by real-life heists. For more information, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

this game sucks you can't really progress in multiplayer and single player is ok but the friendly AI never seems to do anything.

This game doesn't even need DLC..... Its crap all by itself

One more quick point: This game only has about a four hour campaign, retails at $59.99. Expecting fans to pay for 3 separate DLC packs just two weeks after release is as soulless as Lynch's morality. Based on that, I urge all who read this to boycott this game. It's a rip off.

I seem to remember Gamespot firing a reviewer for giving the first K&L a bad review. I've never had a desire to play the games, especially after that incident. Lynch looks like a child molester, though. From what I've heard about the character, I just don't think I'd enjoy playing a game with him as the hero. Funny thing is, even though I've never played a Hitman game, I really did enjoy the movie. If Hitman 5 ever happens I'll check it out but only if its done to the standards of games like Infamous and Red Dead Redemption.

IO Interactive should stop joking around and focus on letting Eidos get Hitman 5 done, or started if they haven't yet. We need more stealth games, there's already enough of these crappy action games. Seriously, if I wanted a crappy action game I'd get Rogue Warrior.

Destructoid got this game dead to rights in their review: 1/10. Spent about 2 minutes in the demo, deleted it, and am now going to weekly psychotherapy sessions to try to erase the experience from my memory. But sure! Add some DLC! I'm sure all the people who won't be playing this will be very grateful...

Thank goodness. This industry desperately needs more filler DLC for uninspired, God-awful games.

with all these dlc's it makes me simply think that the developers think they can earn more money from them instead of the whole game itself :S

No way I'm getting the game , gamers will pay for half the game , then wait for 2 weeks to buy the other half of the game ...... What happen to gaming recently man!!!!!

And this is why I'm not getting the sequel. The developers clearly don't think they finished the game. I pity everyone who does buy this crap.

I refuse to buy either blatant money-grabbing DLC like Bioshock 2's 1st DLC which was already on the disc (and this to an extent, they could have easily shipped with this) and over priced DLC like CoD's '5', more like 3, maps for £10. But what really annoys me more is people who moan about it yet still buy it. CoDs DLC sold MILLIONS upon MILLIONS and 90% of them complained about the price. Don't buy it then! Send these greedy publishers a message and get them to respect their user base. I personally, like shentonio, am happy to buy DLC that enchances the game with GTA and Fallout being prime examples, not tacked-on-in-a-hurry-for-some-cash-before-everyone-realises-how-$hit-it-is DLC.

Oh for gods sake. Will you Developers stop milking us please, have some respect, we are the ones keeping you afloat.

I don' think there is anything that gets gamers' backs up more than announcing paid DLC for a game only a few weeks after te main game has been released! I have bought lots of DLC in the past, but only if I thought i would provide an extended gaming experience like Fallout 3 (ie not just new multiplayer maps). Fair enough if it was released a few months after, but a matter of weeks is just wrong.

hey I bet who ever pre-odered this game probably got the DLC for free and for the ones that didn't pre- odered it will most likely have to pay for it, I think this game is alot better then the first one, well the game play is and I'm getting this one in a couple of months. Cause I have like five or six games pre-ordered.

Remember when they first came out with DLC and it was supposed to "enhance" the game.

How sick I am of DLC in games now days. It is really starting to tick me off how the industry is treating the consumer. I miss the good old days where you bought a game, everything was right there in the package all in one, and that was it. After paying 60 bucks for a game, I have zero interest in shelling out more. 60 dollars is quite enough already, thank you. Luckily, these 3 DLC are only for multiplayer, and I care nothing for that.

Why are 4 people giving a thumbs down to what Betard Foosier just said? So your telling me you are happy to PAY EXTRA for what should be included in the game in the first place? I ASK AGAIN is £40 not enough to get what should be included in the game altogether? People its common sense, if you keep buying the add on content they are going to keep taking content out of our new games. Please stop being duped into giving these companies your hard earned cash, it need to be in the game to begin with if not free DLC!

LMAO @ you two faced people bashing this game for announcing DLC and yet your probably the same people buying CoD which announced DLC way before it was in stores and announced another game before all the announced DLC for the last one was released. Give it a rest.

seriously, we need a law on DLC. Something like you can only release DLC 3 months after the game release

I was thinking about picking up the game. But if this is the crap they're gonna pull. I'm not giving them any of my support.

So the game JUST launched basically and yet they're already announcing 3 DLC packs? Not like I was going to get this game anyway, but still, so ridiculous. This stuff should be on the disc already (oh wait, it probably is and you're just paying to unlock it...)

"WllDan7 Posted Aug 17, 2010 6:16 pm GMT This annouce dlc on launch day business really kills paid dlc. Just put this stuff in the game and stop being greedy. I just know in a year from now you will have to pay to see the ending to games. That will really make us gamers happy. " Actually, something similar to your fears already happened, except in a more horrible manner. Instead of being required to buy an important part of the game as a separate DLC, one game actually required you to buy it from a SPECIFIC STORE if you want to finish 100% of the game. According to this -> http://www.gamefaqs.com/features/top10/2110.html "Also the winner of the Most Despicable Use Of In-Game Advertising award, Shaun White Snowboarding took part in an act of revenge. You see, most people who bought SWS only got 80% of the game, because you could only get the last mountain if you bought the game at Target. This takes both advertising campaigns and Developer Revenge to a whole new level of naughtiness. Freakin' Target." Downloadable content when done right is actually good, but the moment it becomes an obvious need for a lot of players to enjoy a game, then it becomes nothing more than a shameless way to suck in the consumer's money. Of course we understand that video games are big business, but producing DLCs and selling them, sometimes on the same day a game is launched, just shrieks of tackiness and methodical greed.

BetardxFoosier
BetardxFoosier

The only way to stop developers from making DLC is to not support it: spend your money on other things. I have yet to buy any DLC, since it should be free. You should pay a one time fee for the game and get whatever is included with that game (whether it is released right away or later). It's just bad business practice that isn't going to be stopped unless consumers stop supporting it.

I'm still waiting patiently for my Freedom Fighters sequel, Io Interactive. ;) I personally think it deserved a sequel more than the original Kane & Lynch ever will.
