Black Isle Studios, the RPG division of Interplay, has confirmed our previous reports by announcing a new Baldur's Gate for the Sony PlayStation 2. Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance will be an entirely new game designed specifically for the PlayStation 2, but it will still be set in the popular Dungeons & Dragons campaign setting The Forgotten Realms. The game, which is being developed by Snowblind Studios, is played from a third-person perspective and features new effects and spells.

"We are developing the game from the ground up to take full advantage of the sophisticated PlayStation 2 technology,'' said Ryan Geithman, director of Snowblind Studios. "Our goal is to push the hardware to its limits, thus creating stunning environmental effects and highly detailed characters never before seen on the console.''

Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance will be released for the PlayStation 2 in the fall.
