Insomniac reveals Sunset Overdrive for Xbox One

Resistance, Fuse developer announces new stylized open-world shooter only for Microsoft's next-gen console.

Resistance and Fuse developer Insomniac Games today announced an all-new open-world shooter called Sunset Overdrive. The game is coming exclusively to the Xbox One, though no release date was provided.

A trailer for the game was shown during Microsoft's 2013 Electronic Entertainment Expo, displaying a character running through an animated world and making use of various weaponry.

Insomniac's last game--and its first multiplatform title--was squad-based shooter Fuse, which launched last month for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Insomniac is totally done for.

That guy at least doesn't look like most shooter guys, although he looks a bit daft there.

Fuse at demo phase are Overdrive right ??

so I assume Imsoniac develop Sunset Overdrive from Fuse leftover.

Isomniac hasn't made a game worthwhile for some time now. I don't think people should get their hopes up if it turns into another fuse or resistance 2.

All sorts of talent got swept up into this mess of a "console", really sucks for Insomniac :(

Wonder if this goes the way of Overstrike and gets more "realistic" along development.

knowing insomniac, We'll get this awesome trailer and then when they show gameplay it'll be COD with cool guns.

Looked pretty bad in my opinion.

@Ladiesman17 I'd be amused if the original Overstrike 9 character models and outfits were unlockables in this game...

@2bitSmOkEy Not really. You can say what you want about Microsoft, but they allow creative freedom and barely interfere with how a dev wants to create their game.

@soulless4now ... so? Ryse, Killer Instinct, D4, Spark and Below aren't shooters. Depending on what you classify as a shooter, Quantum Break and Dead Rising 3 aren't shooters either. They feature guns, but that's not the sole purpose of those games.

By the way, what does it matter? Great games are great games. 'It has a gun' hardly seems like a feature worth pointing out that somehow instantly makes the game generic. If you go that route you can call almost anything a shooter. PS4 would be no different.

@Zevvion @2bitSmOkEy Not true, UT3 and Portal 2 are examples of this where significant features were omitted from the X360 versions of those games. Of course, the PS3 versions didn't suffer the same fate due to Sony's more open policies. I'm referring to UT3's mod support(Gears of War dev be damned) and Portal 2's Steamworks features.

@WantYouBad aren't 97% of xbox games shooters? I am tired of shooters on my 360!!! and now more of the same on xbox one!!! AAAARRRGGGGHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!! Where are the adventure games, and platformers, and decent rpgs??? tired of this western market gaming!!! EXPAND YOUR GAMING PLEASEEEE!!!

@karenwen @Zevvion @2bitSmOkEy That's a poor argument. Sony doesn't allow a whole host of things on their machine, because they are a console manufacturer. It's funny you mention mod-support for one game. Because if mods are your thing, than it's PC without any question. Sony does not support mods for the vast majority of games either.

Furthermore, what I meant was creative freedom for the developer. Not an open platform. Those are two different things. Microsoft never dictates in which direction a developer should take its game or pressure them to release a new installment each 1-2 years. They can do whatever they think is best.

Unlike other publishers who try to force devs to pump out a new title every 1-2 years and force them to remain similar to the original title.

@The-Neon-Seal That's sum it up nicely and if we wanted to add in Wii, it would be the family centric platform of the three. I don't think they'll ever move past those labels.

@SSJ4Goku2@WantYouBadPlaystation is the platform for "the adventure games, and platformers, and decent rpgs", always has been. XBox is the platform for shooters.

@SSJ4Goku2 Sorry man, The Last of Us is just Cormac McCarthy's novel glued together with Uncharted's generic gameplay.

@malokevi Not the intent of the comment by soulless4. Xbox is and always has been shooter heavy. And still keeps hammering out shooters. I have a 360, and I'm tired of shooters. the only game they showed that was even interesting was killer instinct, but even then I still am leery. (Looks like a SSFIV clone with KI skins). I grew up playing Killer Instinct in the arcades and on the super nes, and I (and alot of my friends) have been waiting for this to relaunch for some time, and it doesn't look great. I would rather have had an awesome fable reveal, or some type of adventure rpg, other than the witcher AGAIN!!! I missed the games from the version 1 xbox, they showed initiative then, now its shooter every other release. And by the way, Xbox 1 is getting dead rising 3, so why bring up The Last of Us, which looks amazing by the way (Jealous much?). Kudos to Sony owners, hope its great for you all.  Microsoft needs more than freaking shooters 97% of the time, more than shooter gamers in the world, unless your 14 and under that is...

@WantYouBad @HairyMetalHead No need for me to lie about it. It isn't that serious. You enjoyed Fuse, I didn't. Easy as that. If you're excited about Sunset Overdrive, cool. But the stuff they have been doing since Ratchet and Clank and Resistance ain't up to par in my opinion. If MS is gonna pay for an exclusive, it needs to be worth the money. I think they spent on the wrong IP.

@SavoyPrime @HairyMetalHead  i dont mind about Insomniac, but the rumour is naughty dog may no longer make exclusives for ps4, but i hope they make for cross platform instead of making exclusives for xbox,, cus that is shit as there will be no more uncharted on ps then..
