Speculation about Infogrames grabbing up Gremlin Interactive was confirmed on Wednesday when the France-based software developer and publisher announced it will purchase Gremlin Group Plc.

Gremlin was founded in 1984 and produced the Actua-Sport line of sports games for the PC and PlayStation platforms. The company also holds a controlling interest in Scottish DMA studio, creator of the Lemmings line of games.

The acquisition will include a purchase of all of Gremlin's 19 million shares at $1.80 per share. Infogrames will expand its distribution of Gremlin games from France and Spain to all of Europe, the United States, and Australia.
