Infogrames has confirmed that it is developing a game featuring six extreme sports events for the Sega Dreamcast. The game, currently known under the working title of Xtreme Sports, will include competitions in sky surfing, hang gliding, mountain biking, snowboarding, bungee jumping, and ATV riding.

"Xtreme Sports is a fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants virtual thrill ride," said Laddie Ervin, director of marketing for sports and racing titles for Infogrames. "Whether players are hang gliding, snowboarding, or bungee jumping, they will feel totally alive and totally out of control."

Infogrames promises multiple events within a single competition. For example, a player might start by hang gliding and then end with a downhill race on a mountain bike. Points will be awarded for speed and tricks. The backgrounds will feature such exotic locations as Maui, the Scottish Highlands, and Africa's Mount Kilimanjaro. Online capabilities will let players compare high scores, as well as download ghost times so they can compete against the world's best. Bonus tracks will also be made available. Rounding out the package will be a licensed soundtrack of alternative music from the London record label Ninja Tune Records. Bands on the Xtreme Sports soundtrack include Amon Tobin, Cabbage Boy, Cold Cut, Dynamic Syncopation, Irresistible Force, London Funk Allstars, Mr. Scruff, and DJ Food.

The game is set for release in October 2000.
