Turbine's free-to-play DC Comics MOBA to enter trial period next week.

by

Free-to-play DC Comics MOBA Infinite Crisis will enter a closed beta period for PC on May 8, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and Turbine announced today. Those interested in taking part can sign up through the game's official website.

Along with the beta announcement, Turbine has released new art (at right) highlighting the multiverse variants of Wonder Woman.

Infinite Crisis was announced in late March and will be available exclusively on PC later this year. The game is set across the 52 universes of the DC multiverse and promises map-altering events across various DC locations.

Characters confirmed thus far include Nightmare Batman, Doomsday, Flash, Gaslight Batman, Gaslight Catwoman, Gaslight Joker, Green Lantern, Poison Ivy, Shazam (aka Captain Marvel), The Joker, Wonder Woman, and Zatanna.

I've been participating in the beta since last year, and this game is great.  You can unlock more characters with "Crisis Coins" which must be purchased with real money.  Or alternatively, you can also purchase characters with Merit Points, which one earns by playing matches.  (It will definitely take a long time to grind for the best characters, such as Batman, which are rather expensive but effective.)

Now wth was my Owlman comment removed.. I can't imagine there being anything remotely offending about it.

Why does the game mechanics look similar to League of Legends? I can see blue bars on mana champs, red for fury and yellow for stamina. Is it the same developer?

Well that's some pander-tastic advertisement!

They even put the boobs exactly in the center of the picture.

Oh yeah Free-to-play.  Totally not seeking the derpiest of the derps who'll drop cash on a whim!  And nothing attracts derps like pictures of breasts.

Normally I wouldn't buy a game like this, but Wonder Woman's breasts make a compelling argument.

@sortajan relax, first person shooters still greatly outnumber moba titles.

@sortajan it's DOTA..DOTA,not moba, moba is a stupid marketing term that was invented by riot an has no real meaning.LoL.HoN,Dota 2,Smite,etc,are all copies(more or less accurate) of dota.

@adilejaz @Tripwolf Does it matter if it's DC Comics or LoTR or Star Trek or Hello Kitty?

The genre is overflowing. Give it a break.

@Tripwolf
Does that really worry you as a gamer? Dont we tend to play only what we like? no other shit matters to me. FPS genre is overflowing too. I dont care as I dont play any. :-)

@enartloc @SoulRain2 @sortajan Someone has their panties in a bunch. You did not suggest anything, you clearly called it DOTA, multiple times. There is no official genre naming authority on games. Someone makes one up, and either it sticks or it doesn't. MOBA has been used relatively universally by devs of other DOTA-type games and the media. Sure Riot coined it, but all names have to come from somewhere. Multiplayer Online Battle Arena is a logical term to explain the format. Consensus deems terms valid or not, its how language works. And MOBA appears to be winning out that consensus.

@SoulRain2 @enartloc @sortajan no you stupid idiot,i don't suggest we call a genre after the first game that spawned it,i suggest that the gaming community and the specialized press should come up with the name, not a game company. What if tommorow Blizzard comes and says "we will not call hack and slash games hack and slash anymore,we will call them IDLG" would you start using the term?

@enartloc DOTA = Defense of the Ancients

MOBA = Multiplayer Online Battle Arena

Which sounds like a game and which sounds like a genre to you? DOTA started the MOBA genre, but genres aren't named after the first game that started it. "Not another military Wolfenstein!" "Every new Ultima that comes out is the next 'WoW killer'!"

@WiiMan21 @enartloc @sortajan why, because riot games says so?Do they have monopole on linguistic terms now?The gaming community didn't came up with the term, neither did the gaming press, and riot, not willing to say the name of their main competition every 2 seconds, decided to create a shallow term, and shove it up the throat of others. And no,dota is not a game,it is a mod of wc 3,and it's spanned a genre
