We run down our top four indie games this month, including Spelunky, Shoot 1UP, and Dodogo!
Dodogo! (DSiWare)
If we’re to believe developer Alien After All, the dodo died out due to the lack of an omnipresent overlord protecting its eggs from hungry alligators. In puzzle game Dodogo you take on the role of that overlord, ensuring that the precious eggs make their way back to the safety of their mother’s nest.

If you’ve ever played Lemmings or Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis, you’ll have an idea of what to expect from Dogogo. You have to navigate the eggs from one end of a map to another, guiding them over obstacles along the way. You control the eggs using the stylus or the DS microphone; swiping over them or shouting “GO” moves them forward, while tapping on them or shouting “STOP” tells them to stay put. Hazards such as pits, cliffs, and barriers are there to try to stop your progress, which you can navigate over using the game’s physics engine to launch the eggs off ramps and down hills. You also have access to a Build mode, which lets you manipulate the environment. You can build bridges over pits, launch eggs with springs, refill holes with a shovel, and much more. You can even send out crash test dummy eggs out to check the safety of your structures before sending out your eggs for real.
A set of in-depth tutorial levels guide you through the basics of controlling the eggs and gradually introduce a new set of tools to you after each level. The campaign contains over 100 levels to play through, plus bonus levels and costumes to unlock. Dodogo is available now on DSiWare and costs 800 Nintendo points.
