2012 has been another great year for games and, starting next week, we at GameSpot will be honoring the best games of the year with our annual awards. Proceedings will get underway next Monday when we reveal not only this this year's award categories, but also the five nominees that are in the running for each. After Monday, winners will be revealed on the following dates:

  • 12/13 - Genre Award Winners
  • 12/17 - Platform Award Winners
  • 12/20 - Special Achievement Winners
  • 12/25 - Game of the Year Winner

This Wednesday, December 5, marks the start of this year's People's Choice award which, for the first time, will revolve around just one prestigious category: the People's Choice Game of the Year. Voting will employ a bracket system that pits games against each other in head-to-head elimination rounds until only one game remains, and the first 32 match-ups will be determined by a random drawing that you can watch live on Wednesday at 3pm Pacific. The games in contention, in alphabetical order, are as follows:

Will Black Ops 2 and Halo 4 do battle in the first round? Will racers like F1 2012, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, and Forza Horizon manage to avoid taking each other out at the first corner? Will your personal pick for Game of the Year face seemingly impassable obstacles en route to the final vote? Join us on Wednesday when we'll be pulling 64 balls out of a bingo blower to find out.

Watch the live seeding here at 3pm PT on Wednesday, December 5.

Following Wednesday's random seeding, you'll be able to commence voting for your favorite games starting on Friday, December 7. the winner will be decided on Saturday, December 29.
