Ubi Soft has today announced that IL-2 Sturmovik: The Forgotten Battles, which was originally intended as an expansion pack for the original IL-2 Sturmovik, will now be released as a stand-alone sequel, meaning that players will not require a copy of the original game to play it.

"Once again, Oleg Maddox and his team at 1C: Maddox Games have come up with a fabulous product in IL-2 Sturmovik: Forgotten Battles," said Vincent Munoz, European brand manager, Ubi Soft Entertainment. "The work has exceeded all expectations for an add-on, and is of such high quality and depth that we have taken the decision to allow 1C: Maddox Games the additional time necessary to develop Forgotten Battles into a full sequel. We are confident that the quality of the sequel will fully justify the additional wait, and fans will be able to see this for themselves at the European Flight Simulation Show later this month."

Munoz is referring to the fact that the game will be featured at this year's European Computer Flight Simulation Show in Birmingham, UK, on November 23, where flight simulation fans will not only get to see the game in action, but will also get to meet the game's producer, Oleg Maddox.

IL-2 Sturmovik: The Forgotten Battles will feature 20 single-player and 10 multiplayer missions, and more than 40 different aircraft, including flyable multiple-crew German and Russian bombers. The game is currently scheduled for release in February 2003. For more information, check out our previous coverage of the game.
