Finalists for the 8th Annual Independent Games Festival were announced over the weekend, and Introversion's abstract real-time strategy game Darwinia led the pack with four nominations. Professor Fizzwizzle, Dodge That Anvil, and Weird Worlds: Return to Infinite Space all scored a pair of nominations each.

The categories include the Seumas McNally Grand Prize, Innovation in Visual Art, Innovation in Audio, Innovation in Game Design, Technical Excellence, Best Web Browser Game, and an Audience Award, for which all finalists from the other categories are eligible. Each award carries with it a $2,500 prize, except for the grand prize, which will net the winner $20,000. The awards will be handed out at the 2006 Game Developers Conference in San Jose next March.
