House of the Dead: Overkill Extended Cut rated MA15+ Down Under

Aussie ratings board reclassifies Sega's horror light-gun shooter for the PS3; the game will be released in Australia with no changes on October 27.

In August this year, the Classification Board of Australia effectively banned Sega's upcoming House of the Dead: Overkill Extended Cut for the PlayStation 3 by giving the game a Refused Classification (RC) rating. According to the board's report on the decision, the game was refused classification due to high-impact violence.

At the time, Sega announced that it would be appealing the board's decision. It now appears that this appeal was successful, with the publisher announcing that the Classification Review Board has reclassified House of the Dead: Overkill Extended Cut with an MA15+ rating Down Under, with the consumer advice of "strong horror violence, strong course language". The game will ship in Australia on its initial release date of October 27.

"It is with great pleasure that we announce the success of our appeal," managing director of Sega Australia, Darren Macbeth, said. "We are proud to confirm that the game will be released in Australia in its original entirety, with no content altered or removed in any way. We were confident of successfully appealing the board's original decision to refuse classification, and appreciate that the Classification Review Board has made a decision that complies with the current guidelines and framework."

House of the Dead: Overkill Extended Cut will be released in Australia on October 27 exclusively on the PS3.

Sweet! I was so disappointed when it got rejected. I haven't used my Move much and this and Child of Eden were games I hoped would get me using it again. I wanted to import but I've had a few imported packages (not banned games) opened before and was scared I'd get fined for importing a banned game if they decided to open it.

Course language means harsh or crude language not meant for virgin ears.

There are so many more important things that need attention in this world. Why is so much censorship paid to video games?

Cool, shows they're loosening up a bit, which is good news going into an R18 era.
