F.E.A.R. Online, the free-to-play "horror shooter" from Aeria Games, will launch through Steam for PC on October 17, it was announced today. The game was announced last summer, and is in development at Korean studio Inplay Interactive.

You can play the game ahead of then, however, as an open beta for F.E.A.R. Online will be offered through the Aeria Games website on October 8. You can sign up for that beta at the game's website today.

F.E.A.R. Online underwent an "extensive redesign," which included various "gameplay adjustments" following the game's closed beta, Aeria Games said in a statement today. All of this will make the title a "truly unique first-person shooter game."

Included with F.E.A.R. Online are ten multiplayer maps and various game modes, one of which is a co-op mode that supports up to four players. The game's storyline runs parallel to that of F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origins.
