Homerun Slugger Hands-On Impressions

We went to bat for Bandai's homerun derby game at E3.

Comments

According to Bandai, Homerun Slugger has been completed for a while, but is yet to be green-lighted by Verizon because of their glut of 3D baseball titles. However, this title is much more arcade style than other downloadable baseball games. Outfield, innings, and stats don’t even come into play here.

Strictly focused on the swinging, the perspective is a slightly raised view from behind the batter. A square shows the pitching area, and indicators show the speed of the pitch. The goal is to knock it out of the park, hence the title.

Homerun Slugger, like Bandai’s 3D Boxing and upcoming Ski Jumping, use the licensed Mascot Capsule 2.0 engine. The graphics are clean and colorful. Homerun Slugger doesn’t look like it will attract hardcore sports fans, as they would certainly want a more complete baseball experience, but it may be the perfect little sports title for arcade lovers.
