Because of the helmets and padding each player wears, not to mention the large numbers of substitutions and general quick pace of the game, NFL stars are more commonly identified by their jersey number than their face.

With the NFL Street series, the developers at EA Sports Big have sought to solve this recognition problem by stripping away the helmets and bulky gear found in traditional football simulations and presenting the players in a more natural (if cartoonish) form. Despite this, there's still room for confusion. Just today, while watching me play a quick match-up a GameSpot employee mistook the Kansas City Chief's tight end Tony Gonzalez for film actor Mario Van Peebles.
