Heroes of M&M V demo coming soon

PC gamers get taste of latest in Might & Magic universe Thursday; turn-based strategy game due out in mid-May.

Gamers will soon be able to see how Heroes of Might & Magic V is turning out...again. The game made headlines earlier this year when some of the franchise's fans partook in an open beta testing and had an unlikely request for the development team--they wanted the game delayed.

Realizing that this was the first M&M game for both Ubisoft and developer Nival Interactive, hardcore fans wanted to make sure the series got the attention they felt it deserved, and they thought Heroes V could use some more time in development.

The grassroots group pulled no punches, saying, "[We] all wish to see more releases in this new world that Ubisoft has created for Might and Magic. However, we also feel that, should you release the game on its currently scheduled release date, all of our dreams will be shattered."

Chalk it up to the "power of the people" or the fact that the Ubisoft brass were thinking the same thing. Either way the fans got what they wanted. The game's release was moved from March to May, and the latest build of the game is ready to make another public appearance.

Ubisoft today announced that the Heroes of Might & Magic V PC demo will be available for download on Thursday, April 13. The demo will include two maps from the Haven and Inferno campaigns, the curiously named 843 YSD: Falcon's last flight single-player map, and the new online duel mode.

To get the demo, come back to GameSpot Downloads on Thursday, 9 a.m. PDT.

The game is currently in development by Russian game developer Nival Interactive, the studio that brought the WWII real-time strategy series Blitzkrieg to the PC.

Heroes of Might & Magic has not yet been rated and will retail for $59.99. For more information on the game, read GameSpot's previous coverage.

I've still play heroes 2 just to bring back the fun memories, I hope the music is good in H5, I just found the music for heroes 2 on the inernet. It should be a good game, now I just have to convince friends to play it=)

Then we wait for the great. No problems with a couple of months to perfect the game. From what I've seen, Nival has taken everything that has made Heroes a classic and legendary game, and put it into this gorgeous installment. I for one thought that changing the game to 3d graphics would hinder the gameplay, but I don't think so. The demo will be the judge.

Two Things: Please do not use StarForce and $59.99?!? For a PC game that isn't a collectors edition? Is this the Next Gen price?

After the disappointing fourth instalment, I really need this to be a great game - Heroes of Might & Magic is one of my most beloved series. Nival is a good and experienced developer, let's just hope they deliver.
