Copublishers Got Game Entertainment and Merscom today announced that Heretic Kingdoms: The Inquisition has shipped to North American retail outlets. The PC game was developed by Slovakia-based 3D People and was released in Europe last year under the handle Kult: Heretic Kingdoms.

Don't expect a kind of Spanish Inquisition with Heretic Kingdoms. The role-playing game takes place in a fantasy world where religion is on the fritz and its practice is considered taboo. Gamers assume the role of the inquisitor, a man sent on a mission to destroy a powerful religious artifact.

As a morally divergent inquisitor, gamers will have to support one of two opposing factions, the power-mongering mages who seek to squash religion or the pro-religion cult that looks to resurrect the "Dead God." The inquisitor's decisions will affect gameplay, as well as lead to one of six different endings.

Heretic Kingdoms features more than 50 quests across 50 different isometric locations conducive to user-friendly exploration. There are also more than 30 different monster types to battle in the combat-heavy RPG.

Heretic Kingdoms: The Inquisition is rated "M" for Mature and retails for $29.99. For more details on the game, bow down before GameSpot's previous coverage, or download the 194MB demo from GameSpot DLX.
