Not much longer to wait.

Fallout 4 mods will be playable on Xbox One starting on May 31, Bethesda announced today. That's the very last day possible for Bethesda to keep its promise to launch the program sometime in May.

A beta for Fallout 4's mods on Xbox One started earlier this week. PlayStation 4 players can expect to see mods sometime in June, though a specific release date has not been announced. We also don't know if there will be a beta program on PS4.

Bethesda will showcase Fallout 4's Xbox One mod system during a livestream event scheduled for 1 PM PST / 4 PM EST today. For now, you can check out a teaser in the video above from Microsoft's Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb.

He explains in the video that one of the Fallout 4 mods that will be available on Xbox One is Snap'n Build, which allows players to build more structures in their settlements. Another is the Alien Assault Rife, which is exactly what you might imagine it to be. One more mod allows players to craft night-vision goggles.

These are all mods that were originally created for the PC version of the game and have been selected to make the jump to console. Although mods on PC have been available since Fallout 4's launch in November 2015, Bethesda only recently added official support for them.

Bethesda previously confirmed it planned to bring mods to Xbox One in May following the release of the Far Harbor DLC, which is out now. A recent Fallout 4 Xbox One update laid the groundwork for mod support.

Mod support on console is a rarity. The developers of another game, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, said they were looking into bringing PC mods to console, but no official announcements have been made.
