One of developer Niantic's goals for Pokemon Go was to get people to leave their houses and walk around the world in search of creatures to collect and people to interact with. People definitely did that, as Niantic announced today that players have collectively walked more than 8.7 billion kilometers in search of Pokemon, up from 4.6 billion kilometers from September.

8.7 billion kilometers comes out to more than 200,000 trips around the Earth. Niantic also claims that it would take a commercial jetliner more than 1,000 years to travel that distance. Additionally, players have caught more than 88 billion Pokemon, which comes out to 533 million every day.

In other Pokemon Go news, Niantic recently confirmed that the game's Apple Watch version has not been canceled. The game is scheduled to come to Apple Watch this year, but with not much time left in 2016, it remains to be seen if that's still the schedule for the game.
