Here's what the latest Battlefield 4 PC patch fixes

New game update includes general stability improvements and fixes for issues like missing grass physics and invisible walls.

DICE has released the latest game update for the PC version of Battlefield 4, which promises general stability improvements as well as fixes for issues like missing grass physics and invisible walls. As the update rolls out, you might experience some limited downtime, DICE said on its website.

The Battlefield 4 update also includes tweaks to AMD's Mantle API, which should help improve performance. The latest Battlefield 4 PC patch comes one week before the game's Second Assault expansion rolls out for Premium members. It includes four fan-favorite maps from Battlefield 3 updated using the Frostbite 3 game engine.

Check out the full Battlefield 4 February 13 patch notes below.

  • General stability improvements
  • Fix for an issue where spawning into, or switching to, a gunner seat in an IFV/MBT sometimes could cause the game to crash
  • Fix for missing sound in Team/Squad Deathmatch
  • Fix for an issue in the Defuse game mode, where a bomb carrier would be permanently spotted
  • Decreased the rate at which the kill card would incorrectly display 0 health, while the enemy was clearly alive
  • Fix for an invisible wall that was incorrectly present in one of the fallen concrete pipes on Zavod 311
  • Fix for an issue where bullet impact sounds weren’t properly matching the actual number of impacts
  • Fix for an issue where the “Draw” message would not display on-screen once a Conquest round ended with both teams having the same amount of tickets
  • Fix for an issue where long IDs wouldn’t scroll on dog tags
  • Fix for missing grass physics in terrain

Mantle

  • Fix for a crash that would occur when activating full screen in portrait mode
  • Fix for stuttering that could appear during video sequences on multi-GPU PCs
  • Fix for a memory system leak that could cause stalls, which would result in frames taking longer to process
  • Reduced the amount of stalls that occurred when running with high graphics setting that require more GPU memory than is currently available
  • Fixed screenshots on multi-GPU PCs

i love battlefield and i really think if Dice were to team up with some one else no EA because we all know EA is complete shit, they might actually have less bugs and more time to polish but by no means is this an ugly game it is a very beautiful one it just needs some fixing, and how do we know titan fall wont have these problems they are also published by EA.

Playing the Titanfall beta, which is actually a far better game than the BF4 retail version.

game is broken.I've played it for over a week. but didn't enjoy it. the hit detection is broken. you either die with a few shots in the body, or you empty a mag, and he still doesn't die when I clearly hit all shots. when I played BF3 afterwards I noticed I was doing a much better job. less deaths, and everyone died as it should be :)

fix your game DICE !!!! or its back to BF3, where loads of people are still playing.

this was the PC version I'm talking about.

They can patch this piece of shit some more and I still won't buy it.

I won't touch another EA game again.

Doesn't matter what they fix as long as that terrible netcode remains the game will remain unplayable.

Didn't get BF4 because I knew they would use that same absolute horrendous netcode that causes hitbox rubberbanding and magical corner turning bullets. It's epic fail and I couldn't be happier that I decided to skip that mess.

Maybe when they finally fix their crap netcode I'll buy their next installment.

Hi DICE,

Do you remember that old and forgotten console? they called it the 360 and you can also play BF4, not a single patch, update has being done for it.... So when ever you have a chance, can you take some of your precious time and do the honour of working on the game for all te gamers who are still living in the 18th century?

Thanks....

Finally, that fix for missing sound in TDM was long overdue

i've been playing with no problems for the past few days. then they "patch " the game and today I can't get on at all. i've read that others are having the same problem, so frustrating.

Yeay, that patch did everything wrong. Now the game has missing sounds, a lot, missing firing animations, it didn't register my sniper rifle kill and my magazine was still full after that, the amount of invisible walls is now 5x greater and in general, it lags as hell. Patches are meant to fix the game, not the other way around.

Btw, is this just me? ^^

although i hate the ways of greedy companies like activision and EA that make milking franchises full of DLC, uncompleted and glitchy games, i cant help it but buying them on day one.

I have ghosts for steam and bf4 for ps4, i hate them when im surfing the web on gamespot, but i love them when i play them.

i feel bad

So I was playing Obliteration yesterday on Siege of Shanghai.  After a successful bomb detection, the next bomb spawned in the middle of the map, except it was 500 ft in the air.  After both sides agreed to a temporary cease-fire, we tried piloting helicopters to grab the bomb midair.  Didn't work.  Then we each made attempts to fly above the bomb and a passenger bailing to fall onto the bomb hoping that would grab it.  Didn't wor eitherk.  After trying a few more ideas we gave up and played out the rest of the round deathmatch style.

Seems fixed to me.

so does that mean the game is out of Alpha and entered Beta, cant wait for Full release......

I think DICE should also release a break log every patch, i actually am looking forward to whatever completely random BS glitch will come out of this patch.

i'll give em credit where credit's due, the game since the last two patches at least is stable and didn't crash me once, the netcode has improved but it's still a netcode i wouldn't pass for beta. so yeah, lots of work ahead and... lol, i just can't wait for whatever BS glitch will come up next!

Well, its good that my game doesn't crash anymore.  However, my framerate has dropped considerably and I've been getting more lag since this new update. Not sure why....

Not fixed. I lost sound mid way through a match this morning.

Lot of hate for this game but I know people who are quite happy with it and spend hours playing it for some strange reason.

Bottom line is for the majority of people who shelled out for this game didn't have a good experience.

If any lessons can be learned from this, it's not to drop a game on us that has so many obvious problems with it, it is actually unplayable - not good credibility for a 'game' that's soul purpose to the consumer is to be able to actually 'play' it.

It tarnishes the developers credibility, it makes you realise that the publisher is only interested in making money (obviously) regardless of the fact that the product is just plain knackered out of the box - that's not good PR.

I'm personally starting to get really cynical about blockbuster titles and AAA gaming in general since the games legacy is more often about how broke it was when purchased, rather than what an awesome experience it was.

Most people seem to spend their game playing downtime waiting for fixes rather than enjoying the product - that's just plain wrong.in my book.

Some "Bugs" I wish would be fixed :

-I just out-sniped a sniper on the map "Lancang Dam" using PP-2000 on single shot... he was over 300m away...
-Bullet-drop using sniper rifles is ridiculous! Other weapons also have bullet-drop. Read my first point...
-Helicopters need to be nerfed! A decent pilot can rule the server. I shot 5 rockets at one (Stinger), hit on all five, and it still hovered/flew.
-When equipping a handle of some sort, the player should actually hold the weapon using the handle (in first person mode).
-When using the IGLAA (or what it's called, the launcher that requires you to hold lock-on until contact) the last rocket is useless as your player will drop the launcher when it is empty, causing the rocket to go off target...

I love how everyone has so much rage over this yet ppl like danny from gamespot love bf4 and so do  a lot of other people. I don't really mind because it keeps a lot of these really pissed off gamers from playing which is good, they can stick to their cod.  Matches are great fun when you have a good commander and a good squad leader.  I know everyone is so super pissed off about bf4 but I have tons of fun playing it. guess im the minority

I don't know if you're familiar with software development at all, but rolling out new patches often introduces new bugs. This isn't limited to only games, its all software.  Even medical software that is hooked up directly to one of your loved ones during a surgery to monitor vital signs. More often times than not they don't know if any bugs will come with a new patch.

djpetitte
djpetitte

@Hollowdimension

very weird... what are you playing on, pc or what?  do you have a sound card?  The only sound bug I've  had was on the railway map, but I know that one was actually fixed.  I just use onboard sound.. but maybe there are updates to your sound card or something it may need.  just trying to help.

djpetitte

@ecurl143

I have to say I'm quite happy with it and have near 200 hours into bf4 including the beta. I know I cant speak for everyone but I can speak for me and my friends and we all play on a nightly basis just fine and have been since it came out. the problems to me weren't obvious, I must be blind I guess..  but I have yet to experience any downtime unless it was a planned update and that's more than I can say for a lot of games.  even bc2 after its release date was unplayable for at least an entire day. That was obviously fixed but I haven't experience that happen in bf4.  I do know sp had issues saving, but I never played sp. I play bf for the mp.

@_Judas_

hey man, you should post your concerns on the bf4 forums if you want and maybe they will look into some of those. Just an idea.

I couldn't find your first post but what's up with the bullet drop?  I believe it's supposed to have the bullet drop.  I see it with the tank shells a lot. If youre trying to hit a tank from far away you have to aim above it quite a ways.

@Razor10000  Netcode was messed up since frostbite 1.0. They never fixed it and they probably never will. The biggest problem with this game is 10 Hz tickrate.

@djpetitte i dont own the game anymore, i sold it a while back on PC 'never installed, was given it for free'. But on my friends PC hes running same as me, i7 2600k, 16gb, gtx 680. and he has had a fare few problems with hit detections, graphic glitches, sound problems. he doesn't have it installed anymore from his rage of problems he was having and ''love'' for EA lol. Im with him on that. i lost my trust in EA after BF3 but all i hear from this game is problems after problems and update after update. I feel sorry for people who have invested in this unfinished / rushed game.

@djpetitte  "More often times than not they don't know if any bugs will come with a new patch. "

They would if they spent a reasonable amount of time actually testing the patches before releasing them.

Hollowdimension
Hollowdimension

@djpetitte @Hollowdimension  I'm playing on PC. It's not my computer, it's certain servers, some will not have sound while others will. Sometimes if I exit out of the game and go back in I'll get sound. It's also not complete loss of sound. You can hear explosions but you can't hear gun shots or foot steps.

_Judas_
_Judas_

@djpetitte What I mean with the bullet-drop issue is that it is so radically applied to sniper rifles. All weapons have bullet-drop, right? But the sniper rifles seem to be overly exaggerated by this effect. I can shoot people off the towers/pillars with my sidearm on the map "Rogue Transmission", no problem (from the ground!), but when I try to use the sniper rifle, I have to adjust the zero'ing or aim much higher. The bullet-drop should be greater on other firearms. Sniper rifles are long-barrel, high-power rifles that should be accurate up to 1000m, maybe even more, but in BF4 the bullet-drop is exaggerated making it unreasonable. Try it and you will find out - aim through your high-powered scope (sniper rifle), adjust the zero'ing to 300. Now try again with your sidearm with no scope. Put your target in your crosshair... if your aim is true, you will hit him.

lfebaggins

@djpetitte @lfebaggins  I find it the funnest game mode since Rush is still f-ed up.  I was hoping this patch would increase the # of tickets but I don't think it'll ever happen

@lfebaggins @djpetitte

No I believe you because actually I saw that happen once in the beta, but I haven't seen it since, then again I only have a few obliterations matches.  When it happen to us we all tried jumping out of the chopper as well to try to pick it up

@TERMINATOR-SSD Games are far too trivial to get all principled about. If a game is fun, buy it and play it.

TERMINATOR-SSD
TERMINATOR-SSD

@djpetitte im a bigger BF fan than him i used to play 1942 back in the days think my bud only started playing when Bad company came out, and after BF3 i made a stand that i will never buy any EA products ever again. BF4 should never of been made, it really should of been something like BF3 premium 2, just more updates and maps to BF3. Like the old days of BF2 expansion packs......and modding support.

my issue and my friends is that the game was / is released in a extremely bad state. Ive been supporting the indie development and real beta programs for years, because the developers listen to its customers and feed back and act on it. And its not held back from pushy investors and publishers telling developers what to do etc. Its a game the developers want to make, want to take the risk and that is something i have huge respect for. With EA its the other way round and just about money.

djpetitte
djpetitte

@TERMINATOR-SSD

well that does suck, if he's a BF fan and doesn't get rid of it. I'd suggest to try it again and obviously making sure everything on his pc is updated. manually update PB.  Make sure there's no gpu settings his pc doesn't like. Find good drivers for his gpu and give it another go.  Maybe wait awhile longer too for more patches. His 680 should be running it on high/ultra no problem tho.

Tigarian

@TERMINATOR-SSD  It might be buggy and flawed, but I still have fun with it so I don't think it was a waste of money overall.

djpetitte

@Tigarian @djpetitte

Yes you are correct, but here's the thing. They can only test to a point in their own controlled environment. Once the software hit's the masses it get tested on a scale they cannot simulate. That is the tricky thing about being a software tester.  some bug will make it through.

The other thing is it's Publishers like EA that set deadlines and timelines that allow more bugs to make it through testing.  All in all Dice have some very smart people it's just EA practice's, but this is across the board. Not only the software in the gaming world.

@Hollowdimension @djpetitte

Oh I gotcha, its server side issues.  If you find a good server or servers that you don't have the issues with sound make sure to favorite them and continue playing there. obviously if its specific servers just try to avoid them.  I've had good luck with the NFO servers that are in Chicago area. not sure where you are located but Id try to find servers that are fairly local with low pings and server settings you like. Currently I only play on one server that is local and this particular one I've had good luck with.

djpetitte

@_Judas_ @djpetitte

Oh, I see what you're saying. so basically for the snipers it's inconstant in comparison to other guns like the pistol that should have a more dramatic bullet drop.  I will give it a try but that definitely sounds like something that needs to be patched.

If you haven't already maybe you should try to post exactly what you posted here in the feedback area of the bf4 forum. I realize it's hard to get through to the devs on the forums but to me that sounds like something that should be addressed. I'm sure that gets very annoying for you.
