Here's what Driveclub's free PlayStation Plus Edition includes

"It's hardly a demo," says the game's director.

When it's released in October, a free version of Driveclub will be available for download by PlayStation Plus members. Even with the delays Evolution Studios' new racing game has seen, the developer claims this free version has not been scaled down, revealing its contents in the process.

Over on the PlayStation Blog, a user comment spotted by CVG expresses the perception that the free version has begun to sound like a less feature-packed edition of the game than we were originally led to believe it would be, "almost as if it's a demo or something. Sounds like there's a massive reduction in scope on the Plus version to try and push that retail copy."

In response, game director Paul Rustchynsky denied that this is the case. "The PlayStation Plus Edition hasn't changed," he replied. "It's hardly a demo because you get access to all of the game's features online and offline." He recently said something similar to GameSpot, telling us it's "feature-complete."

His comment went on to confirm precisely what will be included in the Plus Edition: "The difference is that you only have 10 cars and you can only race in one country (which gives you access to 5 tracks with 11 distinct variants)."

The Plus Edition was first revealed at last year's E3. Later in the year, Evolution described it as "the full game minus a few cars/tracks" and announced plans to provide a discount to those upgrading from the Plus Edition to a digital copy of the full game. GameSpot has contacted Sony to find out if this is still the case.

Driveclub was hit by yet another delay earlier this week. The game was originally scheduled for release last year before being pushed back until early 2014. Following this latest delay, it won't be available until October 7 as Evolution strives to improve the social elements of the game, which Rustchynsky told GameSpot the developer had found itself unhappy with. Driveclub won't reach the vaunted 1080p, 60fps numbers that many games are striving for; instead, it will run in 1080p at 30fps, a concession Rustchynsky says allows for the game to be home to some of the "most detailed cars" and "biggest tracks" ever seen in a racing game.

@Gankstar_VX84 Then why are you here in a DC thread?  You should be playing Forza Farming Simulator 15 shouldn't you?

just want a race car game where u get to mod out the car with your winnings

All this obsession over 60fps and 1080p resolution is hilarious. You guys would have died playing PS1 and N64 games. Ocarina of Time must be one of the worst games ever made because it runs in 20fps.

tendoboy1984
tendoboy1984

Meanwhile, Mario Kart 8 does 60fps at all tomes, even during split screen multiplayer. And it still looks amazing. :)

I'd rather get the game free through PS Plus.I dont care if it's missing a few cars and tracks.

honestly i think its crap that they cant do 1080p in 60fps. They are basically saying the hardware is not there.

Next gen came out too soon in my mind. 1080p and a solid 60fps should be the minimum standard for both Xbone and PS4. These next gen consoles where supposed to bridge the gap from console to PC gaming, yet PC has been doing 1080p 60fps for like 10years now.

Next gen came out too soon? You want another year or two with outdated Xbox 360 / PS3? Plenty of PS4 games do 1080p and 60fps. Just because one game stays at 30fps doesn't mean the hardware isn't capable of it. It was simply a design choice.

@tendoboy1984 Exactly. The hardware is there (see: TLOUS: Remastered, etc.). As the engines are optimized for next-gem hardware, you'll see game specs improve. Remember PS3 games from 7 years ago? Not what they are today

Yeah...I've lost all interest in this game and so far there's no reason to get a PS+ membership.

@Sun-Tzu-GE  You're crazy. PS plus is one of the best things to happen to gamers.

Not trying to put more flame on the war but, how come some ppl say this is a demo, and killer instinct isnt?

willjohnboy

@aquoon_0nly Answer: because the people saying this is a demo and killer instinct is not are Xbots

It would be the same if it was on xboxone and killer instinct was on PS4 you would have PS Bots calling it a demo

mbradk

@aquoon_0nly For me, they are both Demos. It is a demonstration of what you can have by buying the full game. With the PS Plus game, they are saying: Here, you'll have ALL OF THIS plus more tracks and cars. Hence, why it is a Demo. A really good one, but a Demo. The same for KI. Play it, find it awesome and realize that buying it will allow you to have way more fun.

People should take the 'Demo' to another step. We aren't in 90's where the demos came on magazines on a disk with other 50 games.

As a PS Plus subscriber, I am fairly certain I will be doing the discounted upgrade to the full version. It seems to me that it would be better to simply offer the discounted version than an incomplete version with the option to buy more content. It is all in the perspective of the buyer.

10 cars and 11 tracks? That's pretty much a demo...

with no real circuits and a car list that made forza 5 seem massive, this will not be my first racing game n my ps4 like i had expected, project cars on the other hand

Evo studios delivered with The motorstorm franchise, I believe they will continue the success with driveclub. Take as much time as you need, I can wait.....plus I don't even have a PS4 yet :)

jato24

hopefully none of those 10 cars are freakin starter cars!

TheExxorcist

I'm assuming this will be like gran turismo in the vehicle lineup. There will be many cars I bet... MANY!

jato24
jato24

@TheExxorcist bet again bro. evolution studio said the free version is the same as the full version "minus a few cars and tracks" since the free version nets 10 cars and 5 tracks I don't see how a few more cars and tracks would calculate to a gran turismo selection.  unless evolution lied in their statement about the differences.  just don't get your hopes up, all im sayin.

AyatollaofRnR
AyatollaofRnR

So how many cars and tracks in the full version and how much are they charging?

There would have to be substantially more cars and tracks to warrant an upgrade.

croxus

So the full version will only have "a few" more than 10 cars and 5 tracks?

This game looks pretty cool, and I don't have a PS4 yet, so I'm content to wait. Better to delay it and make a good game than to bring an unfinished product to market.

I'd be down for ATV Offroad Fury, loved that game on my friend's PS2

I'll race a little, but I don't like racing games too much, even though I was good at Forza Motorsport 2. I'll give each track a spin and see what happens

I seem to take this game less serious with each article posted about it.

its not a game id buy anyway, i like gt style games. so luckily its free for ps plus users

jato24

wait a min! if we you get 10 cars and 5 tracks in the ps plus version, i wonder how many are in the full version considering evolution studios branded the ps plus version the same minus a FEW cars/tracks.  I wonder if the full version is slim on cars/tracks then if you only get a few less in the ps plus version?

bouff

this is more than enough to test, I'm not expecting to like this game (I'm more of an arcade racer). but 10 cars and 5 tracks for PS+, thank you I'll give it a go..... there is a delete button right?

rIVAL_sWORD84

This is more than a demo, interesting thought but which racing wheels be supported is the key question here. I hope they support the previous releases of logitech wheels because many people own specially the DFGT.

lonesamurai1

I'll get it myself as long as it has more than just challenging players to races and having to beat others times, I just want to drive against AI and that's all.

Why couldn't they release the PS+ version when scheduled, and release the full game later?

10 cars and five tracks? I would like to know how many of each are available overall.

But it's free and it's 10 cars and five tracks I didn't have before so I am okay either way.

30fps 60fps 120fps I couldn't give a f**k what fps any game is in, we didn't worry about fps years ago on PC and consoles, stop being such pathetic tech softies and grow the f**k up people!
