Hefty Fallout: New Vegas patch inbound

Nine months and many updates after Obsidian's game arrived, "performance and stability" fix coming to role-playing game this week ahead of Old World Blues DLC.

Although Obsidian Entertainment's Fallout: New Vegas was well received by critics when it launched last October, it received its lauds in spite of numerous and significant bugs and glitches. Since then, publisher Bethesda has brought a string of patches to the game, but apparently not everything is fixed just yet.
New Vegas is getting patched up…again.

According to a post on the Bethesda Blog, a patch for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC iterations of Fallout: New Vegas will roll out across all systems between today and Thursday.

The patch will address a long list of "performance and stability" issues, and it adds a new save feature that automatically saves prior to the end of the game. This will allow single- save gamers to play all downloadable content without creating a new game save.

For a full list of changes and fixes coming to Fallout: New Vegas in the new patch, check out the post on the Bethesda Blog.

The patch comes just two weeks before Fallout: New Vegas welcomes its latest add-on content, Old World Blues, which arrives on July 19. The add-on sees gamers forced into partaking in a gruesome science experiment that also offers a closer look at the Mojave's mutated-monster contingent. Gamers will be presented with the option of battling the maniacal scientists or joining with them to fend off "an even greater threat."

The game will offer new opponents such as robotic radscorpions, as well as raise the game's level cap by five. Unlike other expansions, Old World Blues will let players keep their equipment.

Just wait for the GOTY Game of the Year edition and buy it in a Steam sale in a year's time. That's my preferred choice of action.

love fallout games, as broken and frustrating as the games are, they still manage to keep me entertained, the DLC's for new vegas so far, so twisted and awsome, hardcore mode made new vegas just even more of a "oh yeah i nned to drink water and sleep every so often so i dont die quicker" but it wasnt in the lame ass TheSims way lol imo they can keep hardcore mode love it

Just bought this game looking foward to playing it. It looks good and loved Fallout 3. I'm sure the patch will fix any problems. Glad I waited to get it until after the patch was released :)

@toad1956 --------- "Screw any more DLC FNV is dead and a better Fallout should be made, one with some morals. (I hate playing games were I am the bad guy.)" ---------- What the heck are you talking about? 1. How many games are there where you play as the bad guy? Usually players want to be able to make "bad" choices because you're a "good" guy in the large majority of games. 2. I'm guessing you've never actually played NV. There's something completely off about your post. Not the least of which is your username. Hmm...

@Johny_47 Bethesda didn't make New Vegas, Obsidian did. Bethesda made Fallout 3.

Johny_47
Johny_47

@LpcWarrior I know the difference, I just thought Bethesda were developing it(not a kind of 'sister developer') thanks, but they still could focused more on Elder Scrolls V instead of rubbish fallout =P

@Johny_47 Their is a difference between Publisher and Developer. Obsidian Developed it (created it), Bethesda Published it (put it out in the market). Bethesda made Fallout 3 and the Elder Scrolls games. Bethesda isn't developing "Rage", they are Publishing it.

I have this for ps3 and since the first hour I played it a long time ago I haven't gone back to play it, I think it's quite boring and the lag and 'pop in' etc is a disgrace. I think to myself all the time - 'why did Bethesda waste time with this rubbish when they could have been working more on Elder Scrolls V or Rage?' If this update fixes that stuff I might give it another go, better late than never I always say =/

Just stick with fallout 3, new vegas isnt really that fun the world just has no personality like Fallout 3's did.

@hostyl1 lol yeah that's what I meant, although I thought it would be at least $19.99... Fallout 3 is a great game so if the patch gets the job done there won't be a reason not to get this one.

@jonnybutler11: It's currently $9.99 @ Best Buy. Doesnt get much more bargain bin than that.

Never got around to playing this because all my friends and the reviewers said it was too buggy... Maybe I'll pick it up from the bargain bin after the patch...

I pre-ordered this game, yes i have the tribal starter gear and all that jazz, but my Fallout: New Vegas is still in its cellophane. I watched the professional review and read user reviews and it seems that if you can look past the bugs and what-not that New Vegas is actually better than 3. I kinda knew this would be the issue with Obsidian from past experiences like NWN2. So i've been waiting about 9 months for this and i can't wait to play it.

Looks like several people picked up the special at BB for $9.99 with the news out about the big patch everyone was hoping for coming ot this week, id bet the few copies at my local store are long gone by now and rightfully so this is a great game.............

I had played about 10 hours back in Oct/Nov using my neighbors game disk as I was still involved in FO3 add-ons. I really enjoyed FNV but the glitching was a bit much so stopped playing and never picked up my own copy. Saturday was able to pick it up for $9.99 on holiday special at Best Buy, was sure when I saw the add by the time i got to the store they would be gone but heck they had about 10 copies. I fired up the game again and ran into the same glitching problems I though would have been fixed by now. I see that the patch is due out this week so im very happy about that as the game is terrific and also enjoyed the FO3 and all they add-ons and looking to continue my emersion with FNV!!!!!!!!

@murray_mchs Not to put Obsidian down or anything, but most if not all of these patches were the work of Bethesda. Bethesda is the one that deserves the praise for going out of their way to fix a game they didn't develop. @nohabs No, Bethesda was busy developing Skyrim.

murray_mchs
murray_mchs

I think a lot of people are losing perspective. Yes, it took nine months for them to fix it. However, the fact that they are still spending money and working on a nearly year old game when they could have just called it a wash and kept the profits that they have already made says a lot. They didn't have to fix anything, they are doing it for the players. As a person who hasn't jumped ship just yet, thanks Obsidian.

the funny thing is that the pirated version of the game was more stable than the steam version :))...it took me some time to figure that out but still using win7 gave me headaches with this game pirated or not...btw i did finish it when i had win xp 32 bits

jollybest1

still releasing patches :))..........on xp it worked fine (no craches) until i've installed win7 and then the horror started craches afther craches, bugs bugs bugs (:'( the horror, the pain and frustration) ...until i've started to use cracks unoficial patches and watching on youtube things that other did, even installed some mods that helped you bypass some bugs (afther making the game work in 2 days i've got bored of it and deleted it :)-to much work to make it functional and it became boring starting the game over and over again)..........

I bought this on release day and although I enjoyed it, the bugs nearly crippled it. But, thankfully, after 8 MONTHS they've patched it properly. What a joke. Hope Skyrim doesn't suffer the same problems.

I just ordered FNV at Best Buy for ten bucks. By the time it arrives, the patch will have hit, so I hope it's smooth sailing now. I loved Fallout 3 and excited to play NV.

Just went to pick it up and left empty handed because they only had one copy and no box for it. Never bought a game in a sleeve and I never will. Someone tell me how they only had one box-less copy of a game that came out 9 months ago...Thanks again Gamestop.

Ah yes, I learned my lesson from Oblivion and Fallout 3, which is to wait with Bethesda games. I really would rather them take their time and iron out the bugs than just releasing a patch ONE YEAR later. Probably will buy Skyrim on day one though.=D

murray__mchs...I know exactly what you are talking about. While I don't have NV yet, I noticed the same thing with fallout3. The first half of the game was actually really smooth and played surprisingly well but after that, the glitches seemed to get worse and worse with each mission.

HiramJ866
HiramJ866

lameo. More patches? I guess this game is not even worth twenty bucks let alone sixty dollars. I been think about buying this for twenty bucks but now..... meh. I'm sure once all the DLC comes out there will be a Game of the Year edition with the game and all the DLC and patches on one disc. Thats when i'll buy it.

I always noticed with my copy (X360) that the longer I played in each session the sloppier the frame rate would get, load times would get very long, and the probability of freeze-ups increased dramatically. Did anyone else notice this?
