Heavy Rain dev going multiplayer?

Quantic Dream job listing calls for programmer with "strong understanding" of multiplayer genre.

Quantic Dream is known as a developer of story-focused, single-player-only games, but the French studio could be branching out to multiplayer.

The Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls developer is currently seeking a lead online programmer (via Superannuation) with a "strong understanding" of the multiplayer genre. An ideal candidate would also have a "very deep and high knowledge" of online gaming and network development.

Quantic Dream boss David Cage said in an interview in 2010 that he would like to develop an online title sometime down the road.

"There are also many interesting changes awaiting us regarding the online space," he said at the time. "So this is something we are going to explore in the very near future."

Quantic Dream has not announced any kind of multiplayer component for Beyond: Two Souls.

Cage previously revealed that he has his next three games already planned out, one of which is an "incredibly exciting" project for the PlayStation 4. "It's one of the strongest concepts we've had at Quantic Dream and we're really excited about it," Cage said last month.

Cage also showed off a PS4 demo during the console's announcement in February. Video of the presentation is embedded below.

Oh god. Please, no. Can't they just spend all their development time on SP and stop wasting effort on a multiplayer game that will die in a month after release

As long as it doesn't affect the single-player campaign, I don't care.

 "Heavy Rain dev going multiplayer?"

I think a multi-player game like Heavy Rain could be interesting.  One where each person plays as a character in the story, and their actions impact the flow of the story.

What they're talking about here sounds like a fully online game.  I'm not sure if it would be anything like their other games, so I'm iffy about it.  Online VS story is a very difficult thing when it comes to online games.  You usually lose a lot of story in the transition.  If David Cage could pull it off I'd be impressed.

If they made an online game where you could create your own character, and give them a deep back-story through your actions in the game, that would be something.  But I'm still not sure how you'd maintain a story of any sort with 1000 players on the same server taking part in it.  It would have to be instanced, right?

well done speech there Dave .., I guess ? I hope you did not think Heavy Rain was for everyone ? I myself liked it because I probably would be considered a much older (M) gamer and I in no way am a critic/writer etc. but , I did ask several young kids ranging from  14 -21years of age knowing about the playing ages (who's kidding who) and some never heard of the game and others thought it was dull ! about 80% had no interest in it ? this is from a group of about 30 kids ?  if the QD now thinking to continue with an online game play with I believe that fact that a very high % will not be interested either , then go head , I sure know I am not interested !

I really want this game to have co-op story than multiplayer online.  Co-op story would be too helpful and spend more fun times with other.

Why the hell is a shooter game like Bioshock Infinite doesn't have the multiplayer mod but this adventure game has???? What are we gonna do in it???

This could be interesting. Maybe you play one character in a story while some else plays another.

All of you people complaining about "tacked on multi-player" what exactly are you picturing will happen here?

One day, we will have to deal with a FALLOUT MMO.   that day, i will be pissed.

People who say quantic dream games aren't games are the same that skips every cut-scene on games...for those people games = mindless shooters.

So sick of gamers saying that Quantic Dreams games aren´t games. Just because it doesn´t play well for them... c´mon guys, gamers and games have been walking a long road now, why bash each others?

my main concern is the single player.

Meh, as long as it doesn't interfere with the single player component...

They don't really get what a "game" is, so I can see them needing someone with a "strong understanding" to explain multiplayer to them.  The first question the person will be asked upon hire is "So, what is a multiplayer cutscene?"

Would be neat if they had a multiplayer to find clues of the suspect and kill that player once you have enough evidence.

Yeah whine more people about multiplayer.
Dont like it, DONT PLAY IT! its Tomb Raider all over again. its not like the multiplayer ruined the singleplayer experience.....

I'm usually against stuff like this but I'm curious to how will Quantic Dream pulls this off, I'm impressed with Mass Effect and God Of War's multiplayer so far.

Lets be honest here, more than likely its the share holders, and board of directors who want to  have a possible  revenue stream out side of initial sales.

This is common by now, the witcher 3 may have multiplayer goddamn it, it's a shame really. Would love that development time to go into polishing the single player aspect.

I just do not understand how a game like Heavy Rain is gonna have multiplayer? Is 1 guy gonna hit X to say "Hell"o and the other guy's gonna hit O to say "Who the hell are you?" :D

@ziproy My thoughts exactly, zip.  I think it could work out well if they execute it correctly.  A sort of multiplayer/co-op game where you all play as different main characters.

It might be cool if you stopped playing for a few days, came back, and the story had a massive change because someone else was working on the game a lot.  It would need to have a lot of complex alternate story routes, I'm sure.

@fredyellowone There already was one at Interplay until Bethesda sued them and had the title shut down (despite the fact Interplay sold them the rights to Fallout as long as they held the rights to the MMO)

@nephili232

as long it doesnt affect my single player experience, i don't mind.

frylock616
frylock616

@blackzio No, I like my games where I can actually use the analog stick to move around and not have to do nothing but QTE's. Thats just a boring game, no matter how good the story is. Heavy Rain played like garbage, so I looked at it as garbage.

Ovirew
Ovirew

@FalSc Yeah, and the funny part is that you press a button to do something in any game.  You press buttons to play shooters, you press buttons to play a QD game.

I think a lot of these people who are complaining just aren't the demographic for QD games.  They might not care as much about story and dialogue, for them a game needs to have more action.  I can understand that, but those people need to understand that games like Heavy Rain aren't 'broken' or 'boring' or 'not games'.  They're just a different genre of games that apparently don't appeal to everyone.

AmnesiaHaze

@FalSc yes, ive had more fun with farenheit and heavy rain than 80% other games

@Kairysama the problem is that adding redundant multiplayer modes to single player games takes focus and resources of the main part of the game.

Square Enix complained Tomb Raider didn't sell enough even though it sold over 3 MILLION in the first month, if they wouldn't have wasted money on the multiplayer  they probably wouldn't complain about that number, they had insane expectations to make profit probably because of poor resource management.

Bordonaro
Bordonaro

@blackzio @nephili232 How do you know if it effected the multiplayer , when or if it does multiplayer, to the effect of if it did NOT have multiplayer...you will never know lol

nephili232
nephili232

@blackzio @nephili232 But it always does. Even one dollar spent on a bad multiplayer is a dollar that could ideally have been spent on the single player. Not to mention how a bad multiplayer can detract from the singleplayer and cheapen the singleplayer experience. Watching your favourite characters from a serious singleplayer story bean each other over the head in some absurd  cartoony deathmatch or co-op experience. That's not even getting into how all these bad mps swamp the market and strangle out anything legitimately new or interesting.

ziproy

@frylock616 @blackzio WAHWAHWAH. A game changed the control scheme on me. Instead of actually learning how to play a game I'm just going to hate it

frylock616
frylock616

@Daian It most certainly does not. They put in the time and effort on both ends. Tomb Raiders single player, played fine. Mass Effect 3 GTA 4 and Red Dead Redemption played fine.

I just look at people who bitch about multiplayer as anti social gamers who more than likely suck at multiplayer games.

Kairysama
Kairysama

@Daian you see the way you think is great cuz you are not saying if they add multiplayer they are ganna take aways from single player blah blah.
and about Tombraider sales complains, tbh I dont know what they were smoking when they predicted their sales....
