HBO Go Xbox Live app now available for Time Warner users

Time Warner and Bright House customers now able to access HBO content through Xbox 360 application with Kinect support.

An HBO Go app launched on Xbox Live last month, but it did so blocking out users of one of the biggest cable companies, Time Warner. That embargo has ended, as Microsoft announced today that Time Warner and Bright House cable subscribers can finally access HBO content through the app on Xbox Live.

HBO Go, now available for Time Warner customers.

The HBO Go app brings the network's entire suite of programming to the Xbox 360, allowing gamers to stream shows like Game of Thrones, Entourage, and Deadwood. It is available only to those with a full HBO subscription and allows users to search and select programs via voice and gesture control through the Kinect.

Presently, the Xbox 360 is the only game console to offer an HBO Go app. In August 2011, HBO parent company Time Warner CEO Jeff Bewkes said the streaming service would come to game consoles, but no announcements have been made for the PlayStation 3 or Nintendo Wii.

Nice, after the lack of support for ESPN 3 I didn't think Bright House was ever go to allow HBO on the 360.  Now I can finally unplug the laptop from my TV.

That's fantastic news for Time Warner users.  As a Comcast customer, I have been enjoying Huh-Bow-Go for some time... and it's very excellent.  Even the Kinect functionality is great (saying "Xbox Pause" and "Xbox Play" are quicker/easier than booting up a controller that's gone dark)

I and hope many others too, wrote to Time Warner about this. Glad they listen and made it happen.

Here is yet another "app" that Microsoft has added to it's list of "premium content" only available with an XBL Gold membership. And the app happens to be an app that is free to use on any other app-capable device that it's been put on.

XBL's matchmaking, friends lists, and ways of communicating with friends is certainly the gold standard for online communities. However, there is no additional value by adding apps to the membership that are easily accessible and free on many other devices that connect to a television. I don't understand any justification for putting these apps behind the paid, walled-garden that is XBL Gold.

Pointless. That's why people have cable or sat. Xbox is full of excessive garbage. It would be nice to have the ability to disable all the crap you don't care about on the dashboard.

 @Legrieme

 If that the case Dreamcast would have lived longer then they did, but people like having more to do with their system.

 @Hvac0120 And thus the reason why I don't bother paying for xbl gold.  It has nothing to do with being a cheapskate like so many 360 fanboys like to say, but the absurdity of paying for something that's free everywhere else.  If I'm not satisfied with the way a company does business, I let them know that by not handing my wallet to them.

 @Hvac0120 Agreed.  And in the face of other organizations providing similar communication utilities for free (Steam, Battle.net, even PSN) Microsoft is going to have to do a lot more than offer otherwise free services to Gold members to convince customers they're doing little more than holding multiplayer hostage.

 @DarthLod wow, like you must of loved spending a lot of time on the dashbaord to be complaining about that.

 @tigertaru

 yea, but people like me wanted something cheaper than the ps3 but also get most of the games ps3 gets. I don't know if you notice that nearly every game that comes out don't even mention being available for the wii.

 My God!... what is wrong with you people. Seriously. 3 brains without a shred of common sense between them. Each of you complain about having to pay for xbox gold to access features and apps that are offered free on other platfoms. If all of you are that stupid to think Microsoft is charging a yearly subscription through gold so it's members can watch HBO or listen to Last FM than I truly feel sorry for how easily the big, electronic world confuses the three of you, because you're obviously clueless.

Hey.. dummies.... they charge for Gold, as they have from day one back in 2002 when they didn't offer any additional apps (that's ten years guys) so members can PLAY GAMES ONLINE WITH A COMPLETELY INTEGRATED AND TECHNICALLY SUPERIOR CONSOLE ACCOUNT THAT TRACKS YOU'RE TITLE HISTORY, FRIENDS, AND ACHIEVEMENTS. NOT SO YOU CAN WATCH HBO.

All the other stuff they offer IS FREE, because I'm paying to play games. The apps are simly an added incentive you can take advantage of or not... or in your case... irrationaly complain about.

... I don't post often, but when i do, it's because I get utterly annoyed at the stupidity of others.

 @Names_Sleep Well that's because unfortunately the Wii is dying.  Especially since the Wii U will be here any minute (Though I still love my Wii and look forward to getting down on Xenoblade Chronicles).  But I'm a little unclear on your PS3 comparison.  Aside from the 4gb 360 model, PS3 is cheaper.

 @Names_Sleep My comment was directed towards @mall69 I'm not sure what you are trying to say or if it was even supposed to be directed at me.

 @Hvac0120I'm not an online gamer, I go to gamestop and buy used games, I only got 3 disk ones and 2 I bought from the game market. You and many others got my age and what am I all wrong, this is my last comment to you and all you mean idiots out there. Not a craze gamer fan, just a guy who just play games every now and again, and also like to be able have some or a few what people have on their consoles that people is buzzing about. I OWN a PS3 AND LOVE IT, but I got the xbox because it was cheaper for me to have at the time, same as many others, IT'S NOT ALWAYS ABOUT THE ONLINE EXPERIENCE.

 @mall69 Don't you realize that all those additional apps are not accessible to anyone without an XBL gold membership?

Silver members cannot use those apps because they will be asked to upgrade to XBL Gold. That's the problem. Free services are being locked behind a subscription barrier and Xbox 360 is the ONLY device that does this. So anyone that doesn't play online multiplayer IS paying for XBL Gold just to access those otherwise free apps.

You are a misguided youth and you made an ignorant and unjustified post that bad mouths 3 of your fellow gamer's.  Your biggest mistake is (and I quote) "...paying to play games." Not that it's bad to pay for a game and play it. But to continue to have to pay to play a game. This translates to the fact that you are an online gamer, which also explains your biased opinion of Microsoft's console. It's okay. Some day you will grow up and realize that My Console Is Better Than Yours (http://www.gamespot.com/users/Hvac0120/show_blog_entry.php?topic_id=m-100-25764489) :P

 @mall69 Wow, fanboy much lately?  Let me be a little more clear about my point since obviously you're the one that's too stupid to comprehend.  My POINT is that I personally don't see the rationale of paying for services that are free elsewhere.  For example, I don't feel like paying for gold just to play online, or watch netflix, or any of the other services that require a gold account in order to access.  I am perfectly happy having free access to those things on my PS3, even if xbl is a better "streamlined" service.  Now if you feel justified in paying for xbl gold, more power to you.  But have a little more respect.  Maybe you're only 12years old and it's so much fun being an "internet gangsta", but that doesn't mean you have to make disrespectful comments.
