[Update] The Halo Wars 2 was shown during the Microsoft E3 2016 press conference, revealing the game is a direct sequel to the first game.

"One of the top asks from fans was to continue the adventures of the Spirit of Fire," said Dan Ayoub, head of 343 Industries. "In partnership with Creative Assembly, we're proud to bring Halo Wars 2 to Xbox One and PC on February 21, 2017."

A week-long beta for Halo Wars 2 was also confirmed, it begins on June 15 and ends on June 20. Watch the trailer in full below.

The image shows Alice-130, a Spartan-II Commando from Halo Wars.

Earlier this week an Xbox One product page for Halo Wars 2 was spotted online, apparently having gone live early. According to the page, the open beta would run until June 20. Halo Wars 2 is a follow-up to 2009's Halo Wars. The first game was made by Ensemble Studios, which has since shut down, but the sequel is in development at Total War studio Creative Assembly.

The game is scheduled to launch this fall across Xbox One and PC. The first Halo Wars was exclusive to Xbox 360. No cross-platform support between the two versions has been confirmed yet. Microsoft's E3 2016 briefing is scheduled for Monday, June 13, starting at 9:30 AM PST.
