Console bundles that include the latest must-have game with the device to play it on are a great way for manufacturers to connect hardware and software. It's an approach that Microsoft has used countless times before. The new 250GB Xbox 360 hasn't even been out a month yet, but already the company has announced its first hardware and software bundle, with Bungie's Halo: Reach being thrown in with the console.

The promotion includes a silver Halo: Reach-themed Xbox 360 console, two Halo: Reach-inspired controllers, a headset, and a standard-edition copy of the game. The console bundle launches on September 14, the same day the game goes on sale in Australia, and will set buyers back a cool A$549 ($490). The console also pays homage to the Halo universe by making "a Halo inspired sound when you turn it on, and another one (shield power up) when you eject the drive," according to Xbox Live director Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb, who posted the details on Twitter earlier today.

Rumours of the impending Halo Reach console bundle surfaced on the Internet earlier today, when fansite haloreachtips.net got hold of a leaked screenshot of a retailer database listing the bundle. Shortly after, it was confirmed by Bungie at Comic-Con 2010, during a panel session.

Microsoft will also be releasing limited-edition Halo: Reach-themed controllers and wireless headsets. The two accessories will also be launching on September 14, with the controllers going for A$89.95 ($80) and the headset priced at A$69.95 ($62).
