Halo for Xbox One is Halo 5, Xbox Australia says [UPDATE]

Microsoft says the post was made in error.

[UPDATE] A Microsoft representative told GameSpot, "This post was made in error, and we will be updating it shortly. We have made no announcements regarding the name of Halo on Xbox One. As we have stated previously, the award-winning franchise continues on Xbox One, beginning in 2014. We have no further details to share at this time."

The original story is below.

The all-new Halo game Microsoft announced for Xbox One at E3 2013 in June is Halo 5, not a spinoff, according to a Facebook post today from Xbox Australia.

As part of an ongoing series of reasons to buy an Xbox One in 2014, Microsoft said, "Reason #14 - The Prometheans and Covenant just won't give John-117 a break! Master Chief returns for the thrilling continuation of the Reclaimer Saga in Halo 5."

In June, former Xbox boss Don Mattrick referred to the new Halo game as Halo 5.

However, Microsoft Game Studios corporate vice president Phil Spencer declined to say if this game was Halo 5 when approached by GameSpot earlier this year. He only described the game as "legitimate."

We've reached out to Microsoft for comment on today's report, but were unable to reach a company representative at press time.

Microsoft has released only one trailer for the next Halo game, showing off Master Chief in the desert. The all-new Halo game launches in 2014 on Xbox One, following Halo: Spartan Assault, which launched for the new system just this week.

I think it is Halo 5 but one thing I hope they do different from Halo 4 is bring back the great music from Halo 3,  that for me is still the best music in any game to date but that's just my opinion looking forward to a next gen Halo game. Another thing I would love is Battlefield type big team matches with 64 players online fighting it out and people having dog fights over head flying longswords (fighters) and pelicans (troop transports) and still have the arena gameplay for other playlists for the hardcore Halo fans I personally think that's what Halo needs now especially with the power of next gen behind it.

always mixed messages. here in australia, on an exclusive roadshow tour, I had a microsoft Rep tell me that video was in game graphics 6 months ago! lol it ain't

@kungfool69 Mate all Halo games use the in game engine to do all the cut scenes so I wouldn't be surprised if this turns out to be the actual graphics.

halo is the only game that was urging me to get an xbox one, but i said eff it and got a ps4. no point in getting a system just for 1 game.

Back in 2008 when I was choosing between a PS3 and a 360, it was Halo that decided it for me. I had a mate who was playing it and loved it so i though why not! I don't play Halo so much anymore, but I will always respect it for that reason

Just like them Microsumbitches to make another Halo...

Halo haters are going to hate Halo, whatever. Halo 4 was my favorite of all the halos. Halo is the reason I bought the xbox one.

Was there ever really any question?

I hope here will be a Halo 2 anniversary remake (with all the same multiplayer levels re-made!), but Halo CE Anniversary didn't sell well compared to the rest of the series so my hopes aren't great (it sold 2.2 million copies vs 9.5 mil for Reach & 8.8 mil for Halo 4).  But 2.2 million is still excellent sales for only a graphical upgrade & not having to spend money/time on designing new levels, story etc.

Pondelicious

@BARRICADE_28 I don't know if there would be one. Halo CE Anniversary was a chance for 343 to prove itself as a competent Halo maker and now they're fully focuses on making proper Halo titles. Also Halo 2 isn't quite as outdated graphically as Halo CE was. That said It would be pretty cool so heres hoping!

Not to bust on you Shibby, but what's with the, "I have both consoles therefore my opinion is more valid than others'", nonsense? I don't know why people say this at all. It doesn't really mean anything. I don't even know why people bring other consoles into discussions about a different console. You bringing PS4 into a Halo conversation specifically targeting the Xbone seems pointless. I also agree with others' comments, everyone I know that has a new system is psyched about it. The only negative thing I've heard is "Where are the damn games?". I can't wait for the big guns to come out, either. In the mean time, I am loving what's already out and think we are going to finally get some PC quality titles this gen.

I can't believe Australia has not banned HAlo yet...because, you know, space travel is dangerous and could have a bad influence on Australians

Good! Halo 4 was the best Halo by a mile. Can't wait to play the next one!

@bmart970 What do you mean? He probably meant the singleplayer, and I agree with that. Halo 4 was the only game where Master Chief actually did something besides stand around like a jackass. On the other hand, the multiplayer wasn't anything special, so I also agree that the earlier Halo's were better in that department.

MrJskilet
MrJskilet

@guudgidga Yeah i'm with you on that. Halo 4 definitely had the best single player out of all the other Halo games but multiplayer wasn't the best. I'm not saying that it sucked I just personally feel that Halo 3 had the best multiplayer.

I wish you were actually on Gamespot instead of Facebook so I could tell you how wrong you are.

@MrJskilet @guudgidga I liked the Halo: Reach singleplayer most and probably had most fun on either Halo 2 or Halo 3 for LAN multiplayer, I never played much online. It's always interesting to see how different people's opinions can be.

they should have stopped after halo 2, why keep hammering a franchise with more games until it's name is mud

Grenadeh

@Deano Well mostly because the story wasn't over yet, and because it's a good franchise.

Only 3 shooters worth caring about: Halo, Half Life and Bioshock. Halo will always be that little extra bit special. Halo 4 was fantastic, the haters don't know what they are talking about. Can't wait for Halo 5.

normanislost

I'm not a hater I just think halo4 was terrible actually worse than reach its all been downhill since 3

normanislost

Actually i will give halo4 some credit I did enjoy the campaign

Phazevariance

I definitely enjoyed the campaign but multiplayer not so much. I still consider it a greatly fun game though. And I'm not a big halo fan either.

Kraken422

@dani_i89 I don't hte Halo 4 but I found the story nowhere near as captivating as other Halo games and for the first time ever I can't see myself getting the new Halo at launch. Admittedly that is partially because it's next-gen.

normanislost

Yay a non bungie halo that's going to be on par with halo4.... I don't think anyone's regretting anything yet

@oracul_us I was never aware Halo was a  quality title...but hey if you like shooting at little aliens that look like teletubies with a plasma rifle and a character named Master Chief.....

BARRICADE_28
BARRICADE_28

Uhh who didn't already assume the next Halo game with Master Chief would be called Halo 5?  Why is this "news"?  More news: sequel to Mario Party 9 to be called "Mario Party 10"!

dani_i89
dani_i89

@BARRICADE_28 Because there might be a spin off like ODST or Reach. The next Halo does not necessarily mean a continuation of Master Chief's story.

BARRICADE_28
BARRICADE_28

@dani_i89@BARRICADE_28There has never been a Halo spin-off game without starring Master Chief.  All games starring Chief have been in the numbered series.

Grenadeh
Grenadeh

@BARRICADE_28 @dani_i89 Uh you're dumb.

Spin-off: Not part of the main storyline.

Halo ODST: Does not feature Master Chief. At all.

Reach: Pretty sure Chief isn't in the game.

Halo Wars: No chief.

Halo: Spartan assault" No chief.

Kraken422
Kraken422

@Grenadeh @BARRICADE_28 @dani_i89 I think what he meant was "There has never been a Halo spin-off game WITH Master Chief." Meaning if it has Chief it won't be a spin-off and will instead be part of the main, numbered series.

I miss Halo 3 :( no new Halo will ever compare to the ones made by Bungie. IMO after playing 4 I think 343i has no clue why Halo was great, and for being so dedicated to Halo all they do is announce new ones instead of support their actual released game.

ChiefReaver
ChiefReaver

@redskins26rocs I guess people seem to forget about Reach. Bungie themselves are who screwed up the game's formula, 343 simply expanded on it.

pspearman
pspearman

@kingcrimson24 @redskins26rocs Halo 4 was definitely the best I have played, ODST and Reach just highlighted to me how little Bungie cared for the property anymore and needed to be replaced.

Am I the only one who thinks calling Halo 4 and Halo 5 part of a 'trilogy' is kind of weird?

I feel bad for 343 who have to be making nothing but Halo games for the rest of their lives.

lostn
lostn

@xXxIRyanxXx@lostn So it's a second trilogy.. while Reach and ODST are what? Spin offs? And Halo 16 will be the first chapter of the 6th trilogy? Halo 27 will be the last chapter of the 9th trilogy.

I guarantee that as long as Microsoft continues to make consoles by then, these games will be made.

xXxIRyanxXx
xXxIRyanxXx

@lostn @xXxIRyanxXx Reach is a prequel to Halo and ODST I think is after 3. And I agree as long as Xbox is around Halo will be around.

dark_enforcers
dark_enforcers

@xXxIRyanxXx@lostn As far as I know, the new games will be considered a saga. If I remember right, they originally said that they were going to do a new trilogy, but I believe they said it will now be a "saga", with more than 3 games. I'm assuming it'll be something along the lines of 3 main games, while the other games will be comparable to Reach, ODST, etc.

xXxIRyanxXx
xXxIRyanxXx

@lostn The first 3 games are one trilogy and 4-6 are another trilogy

ChiefReaver
ChiefReaver

@lostn 1) It's called to Reclaimer Saga, not Reclaimer Trilogy

2) Why would you feel sorry for them? Literally every single person who has ever filed an application for 343i knew right off the bat that they'd be working on nothing but Halo for as long as they work there. With that said, not a single individual has a blood oath to stay employed at 343.

lostn
lostn

@ChiefReaver@lostnA lot of things sound cool or at least acceptable at first, until you do it for 10 years. And then you burn out on it. Why do you think Bungie left? They wanted to do something different, and this isn't going to be an option 343 will ever have. That's why I feel bad for them. The fault lies with Microsoft's unwillingness to take risks on new franchises.
