Halo Fan Spent 3.5 Years, $7,000 Creating Epic Lego Ship

[UPDATE] Now you can watch a video of the epic creation.

217 Comments

[UPDATE] You can now watch a video of the epic Halo Lego ship from Brickworld Chicago this year.

The original story is below.

Halo's Pillar of Autumn, a massive UNSC spaceship, has been recreated in Lego form. Fan Lee Jones writes on this Lego fan creation community site that he spent 3.5 years and $7,000 to build the impressive brick ship.

No Caption Provided

The ship is over six feet long and weighs more than 200 pounds. It's quite an impressive feat overall, though the most impressive part is probably the epic-looking engines, which you can see in the image at left.

More images of Jones' Lego Halo ship are available at the Lego fansite.

Lego does not make official Halo toy sets, though competitor Mega Bloks offers a range of similar toys for children based on the series.

The next core Halo game is 2015's Halo 5: Guardians, which launches next fall on Xbox One. Everyone who bought Halo: The Master Chief Collection can play the game's beta beginning next week or today if you're an Xbox One Preview member.

Thanks, Kotaku

So that's what $7000 in loneliness looks like.

Pathetic at best. All I gotta do is use my almighty powerful Xbox emulator to do the same.

@QuickshooterMk2

And wayy too much money to spend.

@kryotech

300 hours is a lot of time just like $7000 is a lot of money, also just like this 209+ lb monster requires a lot of space. Ironically this doesn't leave "a lot" of room for a social life.

<< LINK REMOVED >> He says he spent 300 hours, which if you calculate it, doesn't come out to be much time spent per day. He's persistent tho....

PC sucks. This guy blowing $7000 on Legos to build a space ship is about as stupld as you spending a few thousand to build a PC just to game.

I know this is really mean to say and think, but a scenario in my head is just running of me just smashing that thing to pieces and wondering what his reaction would be. I would never do that but it's very cynical and deviously fun to think about

300 hours is nothing, especially over 3 and a half years. This was hardly a life-consuming build. People in the comments need to work on their math skills.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Yeah, he spent then like 3.6 days in one year for it. As 300 hours is just 12.5 days.

Out of all the ships to rebuild in Lego he builds that big clunky tube of boringness. Even Halo fans have to agree that the Pillar of Autumn isn't exactly the most majestic looking spacecraft. It'd be more interesting if he recreated a Pelican that was big enough for Halo action figures to fit inside.

<< LINK REMOVED >> The guy is definitely gifted, but I wouldn't be surprised if people wonder about the money/time spent. That doesn't make them clueless -- your comment is essentially self-defeating.

I was about to post, "what does this have to do with gaming?" But then I realized I'm just not a Halo player. Acceptable article.

The word epic doesn't really apply here. Sure it took a lot of time and effort but I don't think that qualifies it as epic. It's as bad as the word hero. Now everyone is a hero and everything is epic.

Someone should make a Lego model of the $2500 virtual Star Citizen spaceship and sell it to one of the backers who bought one.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> Since when does thinking something is cool make "ur life must patheticly dead"? Also, since when can a person throw "urself down a bridge pls"? Do you think before you type or just kind of spew out angry, poorly devised, half-phrases designed to insult people? If you want to be an asshole on the internet, make sure your uncalled-for, irrelevant, hateful comments are at least comprehensible.
