Halo 4 tops Xbox Live activity chart

Microsoft's new shooter tallies more unique users than Modern Warfare 3, Minecraft, and FIFA 13 to take top spot in debut week.

Halo 4 blasted off to success on Xbox Live. The latest Xbox Live activity chart shows that Microsoft's new sci-fi shooter tallied more unique users than Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition, Call of Duty: Black Ops, and FIFA 13 to secure the top spot for the week of November 5.

Halo 4's status as Xbox Live's most-played title may be short-lived. Just yesterday, Activision released Call of Duty: Black Ops II, a title predicted to be this fall's biggest blockbuster.

The first numbered entry in the series since Bungie's 2007 shooter Halo 3, Halo 4 minted a series-best $220 million in day-one revenue, with $300 expected for the game's first week. For more on the title, check out GameSpot's review.

I'll stick to Borderlands 2, without all the immature elitist egotistical thugs that ruin online gaming in games like Halo.

Gamespot? Has Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 been released? I hadn't heard anything about it at all...

I was reading somewhere that more cumulative hours of League of Legends are played in a single month than the entire lifespan of all the Halo games combined.

I was really impressed with Halo 4. So much so that it almost tempted me into buying an Xbox. . . . almost.  Until that day comes, I'll be spending everyday I can at my friends house playing his copy and taking our CounterStrike methodology online to destroy console fags.

Halo 4 is by far the better game this year, who ever says different doesn't know what good gaming is.

@DarthLod Actually, that's pretty much all CoD. I love Halo, been playing it forever, and I do come across some d-bags, but not a lot, and definitely not anything close to how many ones are on CoD.

@Poodger That doesn't surprise me.  League of Legends has a massive consistent following that is constantly updated.  And I don't think anyone plays shooters like people play action RTS's, I could play DotA for 24 hours and wouldn't have a clue where the time went.  I start to feel the toll of Halo on my senses after a couple hours.

@SolidTy Agreed, zZzZzZzZz, the fact that the game being touted over games that came out a year ago is kinda sad really.

@mrsniper83 Not just that.  But the fact of the matter is H4 is a lovingly made title.  It absolutely oozes careful creation and drips quality right out of the box.  I'm sorry but not an awful lot else this year i've played has felt that way.

@lannyboy334 Yeah I agree. I wasn't slamming on Halo. The article just reminded of that random nugget of info I heard a couple weeks ago.

@andrew_ribbons  @mrsniper83 I think this is a well-established point but I still have to say I SO agree, Halo 4 is everything long time Halo fans wanted it to be, the campaign hasn't been this good since Halo 1 (I personally liked Reach but to each their own) and the multiplayer fuses everything that is amiable and fun about CoD with the much more strategic and altogether more fun gameplay of Halo.  This is console FPS at its best, I have no complaints and have to forcibly restrain myself to get homework done.  CoD will take the crown, just like it did last year with BF2, but that is just the pure annual "Madden" feel of Call of Duty, games with more lovingly crafted gameplay shine out so much more, and everything about Halo is just that, a shining pinnacle.

@andrew_ribbons  @mrsniper83 I have to agree. As a long time halo player and having experienced all of the halo games since 2001 I really like the direction 343 is taking the franchise. The first time I played Halo combat evolved was when I was 16 years old. For the first time in 11 years I felt like that 16 year old kid again when I played Halo 4.

I'm finding that the more I play Halo 4, the more I'm realising the subtleties and care 343 has taken in creating HALO 4's universe. I don't say this about games much but HALO 4 is a beautiful game. In fact I feel bad calling it just a video game. Its a Masterpiece for this generation of gaming IMO. Beautifully composed soundtrack as well.
