Anyone still doubting whether the downloadable characters for Street Fighter X Tekken are truly and actually already on the disc can now rest easy. Hackers have found a way to unlock the 12 premium characters in Capcom's latest fighter, and they're currently using them in online modes.
Over the weekend, Capcom forum-goer Razum posted a disgruntled message indicating that he'd faced off against the DLC-only Blanka in one of his matches. The encounter reportedly happened in the Xbox 360 version of the game. Video evidence of the compromised DLC was subsequently posted to YouTube by a gamer with the username kemtox (below).
Capcom senior vice president Christian Svensson also confirmed that hackers had found a way to unlock the on-disc DLC. In a follow-up post, Svensson moved to reassure fans of the game that those who use hacked versions will be banned from Xbox Live. "In any event, we already have opened channels of communication with [Microsoft] on these issues Friday night," he said.
Two weeks ago, Capcom confirmed that all 12 postrelease characters were locked away on gamers' retail discs. The 12 characters that make up the on-disc DLC for Street Fighter X Tekken are Blanka, Cody, Dudley, Elena, Guy, and Sakura from Street Fighter, along with Alisa Bosconovitch, Bryan Fury, Christie Monteiro, Jack, Lars Alexandersson, and Lei Wulong from the Tekken side.
Capcom expects to begin selling these on-disc characters "soon after" the PlayStation Vita version of the game launches this fall. The company said today that these 12 characters will be bundled together and priced at $20 (1,600 Microsoft points).
