Gun loaded for PSP

Sony's portable getting set for a Showdown; PSP version will feature same content as console versions plus bonus missions and modes.

It's been known for a while that Activision has been carrying a concealed Gun. The publisher had no problem getting word out about its Western-themed shooter for current- and next-gen systems, hanging posters for the game at last year's E3, but nothing was spoken of a portable edition.

A PlayStation Portable version of the game was finally officially confirmed during a November earnings call, when it was revealed it would be released sometime later this year. Since then, all had been quiet on the Western front, with no other details, including the game's official name, publicly announced.

That's all changed today, as Activision shed some light on the game that brings the Old West to the PSP. Gun Showdown will be released this fall and is currently being developed by Neversoft, who worked on the console versions of Gun as well as the Tony Hawk games, and Rebellion Studios, the UK-based studio that worked on Sniper Elite and Dead to Rights: Reckoning.

According to Activision, Gun Showdown will be loaded with "all of the action contained in the console versions." The PSP version will also get a few new missions, as well as quick play and multiplayer modes designed strictly for the handheld.

Gun Showdown has not been rated or priced. For more info on the game, check out a review of the console version.

God, get out of here DS fans. Geez, and about that GTA comment, you **** "GTA doesn't count..." how can you say that? Well, I'll say this then "MARIO AND EVERYTHING MARIO AND ZELDA DOESN'T COUNT ON DS!!!!!!" that isn't original content. And for meimnobody, you're so wrong. DS is gonna fall short on sales very soon. SCREW ZELDA, IT'S ALL ABOUT GTA AND METAL SLUG BABY!!!!!!!!! ALL THE METAL SLUGS ARE COMING TO PSP BABY!!!!!!!!!!! LET'S SEE DS GET THAT SUPPORT!!!!!!!!!!!

Again if you ARE NOT INTERESTED IN A PORT ON THE PSP WHY ARE YOU HERE I have been looking at the lineup for games coming to the PSP and yes there are Ports but there are also other original titles. Yes Gun Showdown is a port of Gun from the console/PC but they are also including new content extending the playability of the Game. YES we all here the report of DS selling like wildfire SO WHAT...... What does that have to do with a game coming to the PSP. For someone new in the Hand-held market to even survive this long against Nintendo is a success. Games are coming to the PSP both original and port every system has them but what makes the PSP stand out is the fact that it can bring the console experience to a hand held along with other features. So much hate for a game that isn't even out yet WHY if you are so happy with the DS WHY continue to comment about a PSP game. Oh yeah one more thing while the PSP and DS race may be one sided in Japan it not so here in the States. And why talk about the 360 sales in Japan when has an American product ever been that successful in Japan....... come on! I agree the PSP does need more original titles, there are some good ones out now and more coming, but why bash on a game that isn't even out yet just because it's a port, Gun was a good game on consoles and maybe just as good if not better on the PSP, either way until it comes out I will be looking forward to it I love the game on the Xbox!

Love how my comment got deleted because I took a stab at the lack of originality on the PSP. I'm just saying the samething so many other people are: The game lineup is way to port heavy. Wonder how long this comment will be up?

No the reason we are here is because a the psp is dying. It's game lineup stinks. Most publishers are not happy with it's game sales. Look at the charts any psp game gets to the top ten then falls drastically. They are selling a hundred DSs each week in Japan without signs of slowing down. Nintendo has had to open new factories. They have drastically incresead production to meet up with the demand. It looks like if the success of the DS is replicated in North America and Europe Nintendo will have to open up dozens of factories to meet the demand. Every day in japan when a store mentions they have a shipment of DSs coming in looks like a launch day. Lines up to blocks away from the store. A year after the launch. People that are buying the DS are not game players. They were francitally going after the DS even before the lite was announced. A lot of people in America and Europe are waiting for the lite version as well. Even paying up to 200-300 dollars to get one imported. Gun was considered mediocre. In fact the talk of it's sequels on the drawning board dying is very common. The psp port is seen rightfully as an attempt to suck in money from PSP owners to turn a profit on a game that did lackluster in the sales department. The psp and 360 are far cheaper in Japan. Reason is because not as many people would buy them if they were priced to match their American counterparts. Sorry kiddo everyone who plays the DS loves it but a lot of people who own the psp are enraged at the amount of console ports. They don't want to be charged twice to play an inferior version with load times, no analog sticks, poor battery life, lack of save points, having to buy a memory stick in order to do a lot of game saves. Also the mere fact that the psp is shoddy doesn't help matters either. A lot of people are pissed at the high cost of repair for it when Nintendo charges a mere fraction to repair the DS. Also add in the manufactoring defects that millions of PSPs were affected by and you got a lot of unhappy psp owners. That is why people are dissing the psp because they want it to succeed. They want to play games on it but so far for them the game lineup and prices have been less then stellar. The DS lineup is far superior in the eyes of these psp owners which is why they are enraged about another console port. Kiddo people are paying more for the DS then the psp simple fact. The shortage is due to the huge demand for it. These people waiting in these lines would gladly pay 250 dollars for a DS. Heck most of them are. Sorry the price claim falls on it's face.

okay we all know it's a port are all you DS fans so bored with your DS and all it's original game that you have to rag on a PSP game that is not even out yet, you know the game was good on consoles maybe with the extra time and extra content the PSP version may come out to be the better game. Just look at Xmen Legends 2 it was a port of a console game that came to the PSP and was better for it, Not all ports are bad so come off it. Here are five games that are great on the PSP Syphon Filter, Daxter, Lumines, Pursuit Force, Wipe out Pure notice all of these games that are top seller all original for the PSP There are a host of great games on the PSP so it time to face fact there are games worth playing on the PSP. As for the DS selling more it's just cheaper the only reason it's selling for so much in Japan is limited supply and come on yeah it has original games but most of the time it's hard to really call some of these things games I'm almost sure you can get most of them as flash games and just play them on your PC or on the PSP in the future since Flash is going to be add to the browser. If you're not interested in a game that being ported to the PSP then why are you even here talking about it go touch one of your "original" games and have a nice day Me I'm looking forward to seeing how this games translate to the PSP then I'll see how it is, Not all Ports are bad Mario Kart is mostly made up of levels from past games but you're all eating it up learn to enjoy what you have instead of talk down on thing you have no interest in getting.

Yet another lousy port/remake for a contually lackluster PSP line up... Sony, I beg you, please, PLEASE get some decent games! (GTA doesn't count. I don't care what you say, it would not be so popular a game were it not for the controversy. It is really not a good game. It never was.)

Ah people the DS has been going for up to 400 bucks in Japan. The psp there is about 135 dollars with a 1 gig memory stick. The claim that the DS sells better because it is cheaper falls on it's face when you look up those mere facts. Even the gamecube sells better then the 360 in Japan. A used DS trade in to a retail store gets far more then a 360 or PSP. DS games oblitarte the charts not because they are cheaper but because the nongamers are buying them and even the gamers like the DS better then the psp. Piracy is killing psp game sales. A lot of psps owners would love to be able to be able to pirate DS games because they frequently admit to pirating SNES, NES ROMs to play on their psp.

PSP rocks What would you prefer? The PSP with great ports with great graphics, great gameplay, sound and length, OR The DS with original games that are cheap, nasty, rubbish graphics etc?

THe one thing I do not get is why people hate the PSP it has a lot of good games.I will not put them down because there is a long list. Plus when the DS lite comes out it will be 150 and Sony has said that the PSP will soon be sold for 200 so why not put the extra 50 for the PSP. THe reason I am saying this is because why do you need two DS systems. I own the first Ds and have no plans on buying another when the first DS is perfect.

Pastehunter

The DS graphics are from bad to worse , dont be gelous because the PSP can handle games like GUN . Its the way it was made , and yes DS is selling batter than PSP because of the price , and not because its batter . Common people MARIO is over 20 and gamers want something new , and they want the new games on the bus or train etc . Thats it the DS cant handle new games , because its hardwere its not that good , its just old . I dont have nothing with the DS , but when I see what DS fanboys write about the PSP it just makes me vomit . Thats it the PSP has batter hardwere and it will have gun ! Yupppy !!!

Darkslayer4, Ports on DS are crappy because DS wasnt made for port, it was made for software created around the features on DS, since ports dont use those features in creative ways, they suck. PSP, on the other hands, since sony dubbed it a "portable PS2", developers just throw ports from PS2 to PSP. Nobody here is jealous, especially when it comes to ports.

Why did everyone think GUN "sucked"? Did you even play it? GUN was a fun, enjoyable game with a good amount of challenge (I only play games on Hard, so I don't know if that applies to the earlier difficulty settings) and fun gameplay mechanics. Plus you could reduce people, and even horses (!), to a mere torso, their body splattered all over the ground. Heh, I also got a crap load of achievement points for beating it once. It also seems like it will transfer well to the PSP because the control scheme was pretty lenient. I'm actually really looking forward to them making a GUN sequel, as it's always nice to have a good, ultra-violent, western-themed game make its way into my home.

DarkSlayer4

You guys are just jealous that PSP is getting all the good games from the consoles, and DS isn't. DS is probably selling more units because it's cheaper both in hardware and software (duh, idiots). But that doesn't mean the system is better, just like in the case of Xbox and PS2. And another thing, you guys all make fun of ports, but that's the thing, ports can be very good, like w/ Gun (Gun is a good game morons). And it's even better when you can play good ports on the PSP on the go, unlike w/ DS, where you have a VERY crappy port of Splinter Cell. In least w/ PSP you have good ports, whereas on DS you have crappy ports. 'nuff said.

Why are they so many people talking about all the psp has is port when there are so many new original games on the system and the ports aren't bad either, Gun was a good game on the Xbox so if they can get it working on the PSP (hope they use control like those found in Syphon Filter) this game may turn out to be fun. Dissing a game just because it's a port is wrong ...... how many years has Nintendo been milking Mario. Yes for the most part they have been good game with some new gameplay but the same old story . Original games are great but in this day and age most games are ports, remakes, or rehash versions of older games. At the very least play the game before dissing it and if you dont like the PSP then why port anything about it.

TintedChimes

psp games are WAY EXPENSIVE! Shouldn't it be cheaper to develop psp games now that the current gen mod kits are similar to the ps2?

death919
death919

scotty15, there seems to be a much higher amount of remakes for PSP though. No system is without it's ports and remakes, true, but it seems like PSP is just... a portable PS2, meaning alot of multiconsole games released on PS2 are ported over to the PSP. While PSP has it's share of excellent new and original titles (Legend of Heroes, PoPoLoCrois, and Me & My Katamari are what I'd get right away if I had a PSP), it's still a fact that it has an extremely high number of ports for it, while the DS has a noticably smaller amount of ports/remakes.

death919

I got excited when I saw this news article, then I realized it's just a port/remake... Meh. I'll just wait until Gun 2 for Revolution. THAT will own! :D

narutoFREAK, i suppose u think games like super mario 64 and resident evil 1 are oh so original then? as for this game, i liked the console gun, so we'll see...

Skelitor
Skelitor

I think they should work on newer games for the psp instead of making ports to games. All thier really doing is compressing the original game and not really taking full potential of the system. If u look at it in a different way the publishers could be using this as a basis to figure out what works and what doesn't work for the psp for their future games. We can only hope that they figure it out soon and come out with more original content. Looking for the the new Firmware Updates Sony. Don't Let Me Down. :D

megaunit

This is how companies bring down the PSP even more, if a game sells bad on one console or multipule consoles why bring it out again, espically on a handheld, some companies arent thinking....

Xanog1
Xanog1

I love how all the Ninty fanboys seem to think that PSP has zero games which are original, and that they are all ports. Maybe they should do research instead of bashing it. But then again, they should all realize that it's more than originality that sells a system. I mean, if originality always sold, then why is Virtual Boy still not around? Anyways, the home version was bad, so I'll skip this one as well.

boyblob

Alright. I'm sick of all these ports for the PSP. Just why the hell do I wan't to play a home console game on the PSP. Who buys that crap? They need NEW games. Not ports or semi-ports or some dumbsh*t spinoffs. I have not been too impressed with the DS or the PSP, but since the DS has games that are not just ports (I really don't care that it has 2 screens) a new Super Mario Bros. , backwards compatability for the GBA and the fact that the Lite will come in a few months I think it's obvious what handheld I'm going to get.
