Game Boy Advance owners will be seeing green this summer. Namco Hometek today announced it is publishing Gumby vs. the Astrobots for the Nintendo portable. The game is scheduled to ship in August, and it is currently in development by Torus Games, who previously developed GBA titles Doom II and Pitfall: The Lost Expedition.

The game is based on the classic animated character from Art Clokey. Gumby has enjoyed a career as a Claymation star on his own television show and as a posable figurine. This is the first Gumby game from Namco, which acquired the rights to the property in late January.

In Gumby vs. the Astrobots, Gumby's nemeses, the Blockheads, kidnap the green guy's friends and hide them in different books. Gumby must follow the Astrobots through various tomes, which include tales set in the Wild West, near the North Pole, and on Planet Astrobot, in order to rescue Pokey, Prickle, and Goo.

"The game's release this August will commemorate Gumby's 50th anniversary and for the first time, give fans the chance to bend, twist and bounce like their favorite green friend in video game form," said Jeff Lujan, business director at Namco Hometek.

GameSpot will have more on Gumby vs. the Astrobots as information is released.
