Guitar Hero Live Will Have Singing

The developer confirmed today that Guitar Hero Live won't just be about the guitars.

When Guitar Hero Live was announced, it was differentiated from past Guitar Hero and Rock Band games by its focus on guitars. There aren't drum or bass parts in GH Live, just support for two guitars. But today, developer FreeStyleGames revealed that there will also be vocal parts in the game.

In a pre-Gamescom trailer, the developer showed off how singing works in the game. If you plug in a microphone to the device you're playing on, a vocal track will appear above the guitar tracks. The vocals highway looks pretty much identical to vocals in other Guitar Hero and Rock Band games. You can watch the video below (talk of vocals is around 3:30).

Vocals will be scored individually, as well, meaning that this adds more support for multiplayer, with someone playing guitar and someone singing. It's unclear, however, whether you can play with two other people locally. The video shows only two-person multiplayer.

The developer also hasn't said anything about which Guitar Hero Live modes will support singing. In the video, it appears that the singer and guitarist are playing in Guitar Hero TV, the game's on-demand music service. There's no word yet on if you can sing in the game's first-person "campaign" mode, called Guitar Hero Live.

The developer also hasn't said which microphones will be usable in the game, although the wording in the video suggests that any microphone compatible with your device will work.

Guitar Hero Live launches on October 20 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Wii U, and mobile devices. Recently, we were able to talk to design manager Pete O'Donnell, and you can read the interview here. You can also check out our hands-on impressions of the game here.
