Few fighting games can rival the Street Fighter series for the sheer number of upgrades and spin-offs. However, if there's one franchise that appears set on giving Capcom's golden goose a run for its money, it has to be Arc System Works' Guilty Gear.

The Guilty Gear series of 2D fighters has regularly produced new arcade and console installments since 1998. There has been Guilty Gear X, Guilty Gear X Plus, Guilty Gear X2, Guilty Gear X2 # Reload, Guilty Gear XX Slash, Guilty Gear Isuka, Guilty Gear Dust Strikers, and the soon-to-be-released Guilty Gear Judgment.

Now the official Guilty Gear Web site has revealed that another arcade iteration, Guilty Gear XX Core, is in development. According to the site, a beta version of Core underwent on-site testing at the Club Sega arcade in Tokyo's Akihabara district last weekend, with players submitting their feedback about the game via an online mail form.
