Guilty Gear XX Core to hit Tokyo arcade for testing

Arc System Works asks arcade-goers to help it hammer out the kinks in its next 2D fighter.

Few fighting games can rival the Street Fighter series for the sheer number of upgrades and spin-offs. However, if there's one franchise that appears set on giving Capcom's golden goose a run for its money, it has to be Arc System Works' Guilty Gear.

The Guilty Gear series of 2D fighters has regularly produced new arcade and console installments since 1998. There has been Guilty Gear X, Guilty Gear X Plus, Guilty Gear X2, Guilty Gear X2 # Reload, Guilty Gear XX Slash, Guilty Gear Isuka, Guilty Gear Dust Strikers, and the soon-to-be-released Guilty Gear Judgment.

Now the official Guilty Gear Web site has revealed that another arcade iteration, Guilty Gear XX Core, is in development. According to the site, a beta version of Core underwent on-site testing at the Club Sega arcade in Tokyo's Akihabara district last weekend, with players submitting their feedback about the game via an online mail form.

GGXXAC will Rock, unless the rumor of GGX3 is going to be on 3D, sorry guilty gear, I not a 2D fanboy.

Rumour is GGX3 is going to be 3D... Because of that, I don't care how long they keep making these updates, as long as it stays freaking 2D. But I agree, I'm really eager to see more of the storyline behind it all. A fighting game with a storyline instead of year after year of tournaments? Possibly one of the most complex fighting engines ever made? Yeah. Guilty Gear remains to be my favourite 2D fighter, and ties with Tenkaichi 2 as my overall favourite fighter. It'll probably remain that way until they start putting multiplayer into Devil May Cry.

lol this reminds me of when I was a kid just saying "stop making more SFII damnit! just make SFIII already!" and I was shocked when I seen SFA for the first time . now...just make Guilty Gear X3 already! (abreviated as GGXXX haha) I really want to know more about Raven and "That Man" :(

the Guilty Gear series is alright I like it because of their use of the guitar and all those crazy characters

I love the fighting mechanics of the GG games. They always manage to be fairly simple, but really fluid. In a way it almost reminds me of Smash Bros., except with a lot more anime, arcade, and rock & roll influences.

There are a number of new backgrounds, and the voices are being re-recorded. There are no reports of any new characters though.

Man, I would want this to come to the US if the arcades of America weren't so dead.

@yukine Rehash or refinement? Vampire Saviour, Super Turbo and Third Strike were only as good as they were because of all their revisions. VF4 (including Evolution) had 6 revisions in the arcades. Besides, completely new games are more expensive (and much riskier) than what they're doing. What they're doing is making money (good thing - I hate it when companies I like go bankrupt), and is probably more affordable for arcades (good thing for arcades). Sadly, the US arcade scene is practically dead :(

It's rather unforunate that every Guilty Gear is a rehash of the other, come on lets see a completely new game, Arc.

I haven't even had the chance to play Slash yet! Release the game in the States!

I'm all for it, the more upgrades the better. Now they need to release the damn thing over here.

@Kai_Ozu No game is perfect, so I guess they can upgrade it indefinitely. I personally don't see a problem - GG is already considered to be a decent tournament game here (obscurity isn't helping it - darn dying arcades), the engine is really interesting, and if it makes for a better game so much the better. Personally, I'd like to see fighting games use the download/storage capabilities of the current systems to make point revisions available (ie, like VF4: Evo vA, vB, vC, etc). If it's just stuff that could fill a spreadsheet (ie, no new art, sound effects, etc), then make it available for download for a small, reasonable fee ($5?). As long as the player can choose which revision they're going to play, sweet (Sega allowed you to choose from two different VF2 revisions on the Saturn version). Dreaming, I know ^_^

It's Accent Core, not just Core. Whatever. It won't come out here and I will have to import it if it comes out on consoles.

And yet again, I laugh at those who kept saying GG wont go the way of SF. You can make as many excuse as you like, fact is, there's still plenty of touched up releases of the same core game (X and XX for this case, SFII for Capcom's). Oh well, so long the game just gets better, it's all good to me.

How many times can they upgrade this game? O_o
